Re: Gyromax seat questions.

The pedestal in the Gyramax was the pedestal that Perception put in all of their factory conversions (yes, you could order a factory conversion back in the day, like my Whiplash...) It's a decent saddle - the plastic seat platform might be 4", with about 2" of minicell on top from the factory (I thi...

Re: Most notable C1 conversion?

I have really enjoyed my Score which is the big brother to the Forplay - I've had other fun boats but they really required regular attention for me to stay comfortable in them, the Score is stable enough I can come back to it after months and still have fun. The Remix line has been a very popular fo...

Re: Your Favorite Road Trip Vehicle

I did think about engine size when I picked the vehicle I did, but also made a point to get the "tow prep package" - AT cooler, oil cooler, better cooling fans, etc - so I don't kill the engine or tranny when more heavily loaded. When unloaded, the extra gas mileage (so far max is 29MPG) is nice, bu...

Re: Your Favorite Road Trip Vehicle

I had a Toyota T100 for a long time - reliable, roomier than a Tacoma (4 adults from SC to WV for a long weekend), better gas mileage than a Tundra. But... that's not new. We have had minivans for years - my father-in-law for years before that. Newer ones easily get >20 mpg, room for people, room to...

Re: Air bag Inflator

That is likely high pressure, low volume - you need low pressure, high volume. A friend of mine has a battery powered blower he uses that fits in his tool family tree - https://www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-0884-20-M18-Compact-Blower/dp/B00IGY9IH8/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?ie=UTF8&dpID=41oXgQOGUxL&dpPl=1&...

Re: Help...Racks too short

Or get the taller towers and let some air out of your tires. I drove into a parking garage once and hit the "headache bar" ("clearance n feet m inches") with my boat - couldn't back up at that point - let 10 PSI out of my tires and cleared the concrete by 1/2". Drove very slowly and nervously out of...

Re: $25 Buffalo Canoe Project. Can I fix it?

Another approach might be Gorilla Glue as a filler and ABS sheet + ABS cement as the repair. Getting ABS to take compound curves with heat and/or solvent is not something I've gotten good at, though others have. I've had good luck with making skid plates with gFlex and dynel (thanks Peter Blanc) - p...

Re: Astral Footwear?

Verdict on the Loyaks - nope. The toes wore quickly, by trip 10 they were almost all the way through. My local shop said bring them back, we'll give you new ones and send these back to Astral. I couldn't bring myself to wear the new ones in a boat considering they'd do the same thing all over again ...

Re: wood gunwales on a Zephyr

I really like my Zephyr, but also paddle it like a glass boat. It sees as much time on black water as white - it's very well suited for twisty, swampy streams and is easier to navigate the ups, overs, and arounds than the the kayaks or bigger, heavier canoes other folks bring. I've had luck with Goo...

wood gunwales on a Zephyr

I've tentatively got putting wood gunwales on my Zephyr on the list of projects - it might be a while, but, i'd like to do it. Those of you that have wood gunwales on Zephyrs, how do you have the bag lacing run? through holes in the hull like with a lot of Royalex boats? If you converted, I'm imagin...

Re: C1 Remix conversion

Starting about here is a series of pictures from my Remix conversion with snow board knee straps and a snap shackle based quick release. it evolved from the original install sitting on a PE plate held in place by friction and pressure with no bolts - I relented and did drill some holes :-) Of my var...
