Re: suggestions for a kids first boat

Maybe try something like a Whip-it, Sparc, or Super Sport. They're narrow but have a flattish hull and are in the 9-10' range. And they seem to go pretty cheap these days.

Upper Yough- 1970

Glass boats, giant paddles, nylon skirts, and still making it look easy.

Re: Drilling Anchors in C1

Bolt through the strap is plenty strong. Double the end over & put a washer on it. It will not likely tear out.

Could someone just make a saddle that is height adjustable with a pump or something??? That can be easily adjusted without moving the skirt. Comon, it's got to be easy :)

Hmm. I have an idea, and it might, in fact, be pretty easy. I'll have to do a little tinkering at work on Monday.

What about filing an air bag with coloured air (like a smoke marker)?
If you're on good terms with your friendly neighborhood auto mechanic, there is a tool that does just that- used for finding leaks in a car's evaporative emissions system. I suspect it would work perfectly.

I haven't paddled one yet, but the Jackson large Karma looks promising. Its wide, flat-hulled, and huge volume. Also available with factory C1 outfitting.

Re: Mohawk XL-12 Information?

My first boat was an XL-12 (circa 1992). It's somewhat "old school"- wide, round, and not much rocker, so it is not that quick to turn. That said, it's not a bad boat and much less barge-like than the similar 13-14 foot boats that were around at the time. I was about 160# at the time, I found it a l...

Re: c1 sleepy foot syndrome...

Can you start giving advice to us other dads-with-toddlers on how you get 90 days on the river!!? Since I've had 2 kids (4 and 2), I'd seriously be lucky to get 9 days! I could live with once a month, but can't seem to make it happen. So, you've got it good - I don't even remember which boats need ...

Re: c1 sleepy foot syndrome...

Minimize the amount of clothing bunched up behind your knees. If the front of your saddle is square, cut off the corners- the points can press on your inner thigh and reduce blood flow to your lower legs. Rolling helps too, it takes the weight off your knees momentarily and tends to bring your lower...
