Re: Expedition C-1--Katana?

A glass Cascade by Class Five boats.
Well there not showing any on their site at the moment but they did make it at one time. For a C1 their prices are very reasonable.

Re: C1 conversion bulkhead questions

The dilema is that unless you sit in a low saddle 6" or less straps or bulkhead alone won't keep you in the boat upside down. The issue with pegs is that as you describe. The solution in theory would be foot nubs. Something you can hold yourself in when you want but you can slide your toe off of whe...

Re: Shortening an H2O C1 Paddle

Since none have replied with the best method I'll suggest 'a' method. Note that I have not done this myself but am hoping that sbroam will chime in with the right way. First is to get a forstner bit just a bit smaller in diameter than the paddle shaft then with shaft in vice drill out the center of ...

Boaters, Asheville In April

We are heading to Asheville in April to visit family and get a taste of retirement. With the plan to do some easy trips on the French Broad in the sun in our tandem. I will have a C1 in tow and will have to evaluate once I'm down there how adventurous I want to be. I'd like to meet other boaters whi...

Re: Under rated boats...

I recognise the tennis ball now. I just assumed it was a defect in the photo. The things that don't make it in the lore until you ask.

Re: S T R E T C H I N G

Another thing I do when it isn't so dam hot is evening flatwater runs on a local stream. It can be an hour or two. I set up a bike at the end point and then paddle down to it then ride back to the car. Doing this mid week on a weekly basis has helped with stamina and I tend to tolerate longer river ...

Re: S T R E T C H I N G

I was in my late 40's when I decided to lower the saddle and be a C1r. It took a year to train my knees to accept the tighter confines of the cockpit. I did not do any stretching of note. I will say from experience that you should do more walking and biking to keep your knees strong. I had major swe...

Oh, Mkoeppe, I just noticed the stern paddler is missing their paddle in swimmers. What a feat.

Re: Under rated boats...

A picture of a Descender would be nice.

As for the Amoeba, I don't think very many were made. I only know of two, one in Glen Falls and the other in Concord NH. You could contact Millbrook boats and see if Kaz knows of any others, and he would know.

Re: Under rated boats...

Oh, so much fun can be had in a C2.
The Gemini is a nice looking boat. Sharpe edged without much vertical chine.

Re: South Eastern First Descents, Overflow, etc.

P_H Were C1s more popular with crazy people No, they were more readily available. The canoe was the most prevalent boat at the time. There was a culture of canoeing then that is gone now. Canoe clubs were popular and the crazy among them moved on to more extreme craft that were being imported or cop...

Re: C1 & C2 Boating

well including an Acrobat Squirt C1 I could never fit my heels under the deck of a Bat boat. The Viper C1 is the closest and I think that hull was taken from a cudamax. The Viper has been raved about on this forum well back 14 years ago and at one armada I think six of us came with one to run the N...

Re: C1 & C2 Boating

P_H, If you're not too far from NW Massachusetts the Deerfield river near Charlemont MA has regular weekly releaseses. There are two sections, the Monroe (Dryway) section is class III-IV and the Fife Brook section is class II with a class III option at the take out. Fife link https://www.safewaters....

Re: C1 & C2 Boating

MK, That's a great price for a New C1. I'm sure having two built at once helped. If Class V could sustain production near this price level I don't see why the Atom could not see a resurgence in the C1 market. It really has a nice looking profile that the two tone deck/hull highlights. It's not a pla...
