Chuck,
Can you post a pic? If it doesn't have wings, then most likely it is an Atlantis.

Chuck, What I have always done with glass boats is to take some strips of Glass and kevlar cloth - maybe 2 inches wide and about 4 inches long, and lay them up with epoxy on a sheet of plastic or wax paper. Inside the boat (on the inside of the deck - or lower down the chine, sand the area to rough ...

Bill,
You can probably cut it just fine with the miter saw. If you can clamp the shaft into a miter box, it will help you make a straight cut..

As for the grip, I've always used a wooden grip, and put a short wood dowel into the grip. Then I glue the dowel into the shaft with epoxy.

Guest, Scott, First - I would recommend against using seam tape for the repair. The selvage edge will keep it from conforming to the curves easily. You can pick up glass cloth at any hardware or auto parts store .If you cut the cloth on a bias (45 degrees to the weave) it will conform to just about ...

Shortening a Slalom Boat

Scott - You can do it a couple of ways. The easiest way is to simply cut the ends off in sort of a radiused curve, then with minicell or some similar foam, fill in the open areas (bow and stern) - This will give you a form to lay your reinforcement over. Then using masking tape or electrical tape ma...

ADs

Take a look at American Whitewater's website - americanwhitewater.org - They have done a nice job of placing a few ads which I'm sure help to defray some of their costs, but at the same time are not "in your face". To my knowledge there are not issues with recommending one supplier's products over a...

Advertising

Adam,
I see no issue with having some advertisers on the site - Heck they may even be willing to offer discounts to registered users - That would be a win for you and for the registered users - not to mention the advertisers.

An ABS canoe as a Plug

If you like the boat design enough to consider making a mold from it, it may be very much worth your time to contact the designer and see if they would grant molding rights. There are a good number of canoe companies with very nice designs that have enther gone out of business or stopped making cano...

Quick and Dirty repair.

for a quick and dirty repair, just use the epoxy putty to seal the tear.

Cheap, easy and quick - then you can sand it a bit and put skid plates over it when you get around to it.

Repair

The only way to get the caved in section out is with heat - but you need to be really careful. You can use a heat gun - but you need to be really patient and keep the heat gun moving. An easier way to heat it is to put a black garbage bag over the ding and put the boat out in the sun (it may be too ...

Mitchell Paddles

I've paddled with Mitchell Paddles for 20 years - back when they used a layer of veneer on each side (before they started glassing the blades).

They are great.

I would recommend roped edges - they will take more of a beating.

Supermax

The supermax was only made by Seda - it was the second of the Max Series by Hearn, Lugbill and company. Not sure it was raced that much - because the ultramax came out - I know Bob Robinson raced an ultramax at the '79 worlds (bronze) - don't remember what Jon and Davey raced that year - either ultr...
