I've found it's the knees that provide the most control. Thigh and lap belts help keep you in the boat. I like a lap belt in the playboat. I don't think the bulkhead needs to be more than 3-4" deep for the knees. Well designed hip pads go a long way towards keeping you in the boat also.

I agree that names of rivers and rapids reduces the crappy level, however in this case access issue is too sensitive and the river must remain un-named.
