Re: A bad break
First off, I think that the overall properties of linear PE (flex, impact resisstance, weldability, recyclability) make it the first choice in my eyes for creaking or any other rocky low volume runs. As with any other materials the manfacturing process has a huge influence on the end quality of the ...

Re: Mysterious C1
The boat in this segment is definitely a Massive Groove, designed, as mentioned, by Ian Thompson with, as far as I know, input and help by Paul Danks. Paul is also the paddler in this segment, one of the most amazing paddlers I have ever seen. Sir Adam is, as far as I know, right, all the composite ...

Re: Just curious
1) It depends. On how much I want the new boat and on what my life situation (income vs. expenses)at thre time are. I have bought some new boats pretty much on a whim putting other purchases on the back burner, while at other time I put buying a boat on the back burner. the 'gotta have' factor of th...

Re: Thinking outside the weld
Not sure about your friends statement. I have researched this a bit and done some trials with the solvents that we have at Esprit (MEK, Acethone and THF [Tetrahydrofuran]), and I found that they all do some minor dissolving of PE at ambient temperature, THF maybe a bit more than the other two. This ...

Re: BigDog Force OC1?
Been paddling a Big Dog Force OC1 for 3 seasons now. Great boat, my go to OC1, even when I have the choice. - Front and side surfs well. With the low volume stern, you can often stick the stern under a foam pile and surf waves that are steeper than with the full volume boats. -As from the factury it...

Re: Thinking outside the weld
As Dave said. What I meant to say was to make sure that the notch/groove is deep and wide enough to get a good weld and full penetration. The cross section of the groove should look like an X, with just a sharp ridge there the 2 grooves meet. If in doubt, cut out too much, with a little practice you...

Haven't converted any of the 3, put based on your goal being play boating I would probably rule out the Godzilla.
The Super Ego is, if memory serves me correctly, a fit slicier than the Inazone, which might make cartwheeling and such easier.

Re: Thinking outside the weld
No need to be thinking outside the weld for repairing PE boats! Welding is the way to go on PE boats, at least as far as linear PE is concerned, which is used by just about everyone these days. Dave has some great advice for you, my technique is very similar, but I have a few variations, but both se...

Re: C1 Insert Input
Dave, I thought about making something similar 5 years ago prior to my Nepal trip. The biggest challenge was not to make a compact break-down saddle console that part I figured out pretty quickly, the biggest problem was with me not knowing what boat I was going to be able to get a hold of to design...

Re: Dagger Aftershock Re-Outfit
Nice work!
Just curious, why did you decide not to just modify the original Dagger saddle? The same saddle is used in the Cascade and Atom C1's, where it works well without footpegs.

The fastes and most reliable autolock biners I have found are the BD Magnetron biners. As fast to use as a snapgate, failsafe autolock mechanism and the mechanism does not get messed up by sand or rust. While the twistlocks I previously used on my flip line were done after about 6 month of daily pro...

Re: What to do about bad knees
Craig, I agree with what Kaz said. Thigh straps are the solution. My right knee has some damage that makes it pretty much intolerable for me to use foot pegs. I have now a combination of either double straps or a short bulkhead to hold my knees and thigh straps in my boats. In conjunction with a rel...
