Re: dude whats that smell?
I also recommend white vinegar. Been using it for years. Doesn't harm fabrics or rubber and kills the smell. Worst case you smell like salad dressing. Some friends recommend diluting the vinegar, but I use it full strength. Wash or rinse after a soaking.

Re: Wenonah Recon- Tandem???
Other really good choices include the Vertige-X and Blast, both from Esquif. Used Esquif Nitros are relatively easy to find and I know of one that was converted into a sweet little tandem. Likewise, a used Mowhawk XL should be easy to find and convert. There are probably some Mad River boats around ...

Re: attainment?
Attainment is a method to test whether your forward stroke is worth a darn. It does the same for all other aspects of boat control.

Re: Wenonah Recon- Tandem???
It would be a lot of work to turn it into a tandem. I've paddled with a friend who uses one solo. I was highly unimpressed. I wouldn't accept one if you gave it to me.

Re: Light L'edge v/s L'edge (responsiveness)
I have to disagree with the idea the heavier boats are more durable. Two of the heavier L'edges that I saw crack, cracked where some of the material was at its very thickiest on the bottom of the boat beneath the seat. The cracks I've seen were in the same area. I don't know details about how manuf...

Re: Light L'edge v/s L'edge (responsiveness)
There is more to the lighter L'Edge than just the weight change. As it was explained to me (by people with first-hand knowledge) the manufacturing process of the new lighter L'Edge was changed to cure the heavier version's tendency to crack. Last March a lite L'Edge was given to a well known class I...

Re: Esprit Costa Rica/Mexico...Have you been?
I just watched most of your videos (again) and have to agree with the comments of others - there's a lot of big water and drops that are likely to scare away the less adventurous boaters. Maybe a series of "shorts" that feature rivers by class would be effective. As a video maker with 30+ years of e...

Re: Canoe instruction... why do so few of us pay for it?
Looks to me like this tread has covered most of the "why not" pretty well. One other possibility is the lack of readily available instruction. If people cannot easily find instruction when and where they want it then interest is lost and forgotten. Only the most serious will pursue it further. The l...

Re: Spark, Ignitor, or Shacho (i.e. which Kaz boat)?
The Spark is (more or less) Esquif's royalite version of the Ignitor. Being a "glass" boat the Ignitor is lighter and therefor potentially faster than the Spark. Otherwise, they probably behave about the same. The Spark is: - Very fast in a straight line. Excellent hull speed. Kaz paddles one faster...

Re: Ok, my turn to ask for OC roll help
Try thinking in terms of knee pressure instead of hip rotation. Use the knees to pull the boat under your head. Think, "I'm going to smack my face against the side of the boat" or "I'm going to knee myself in the face". The hips will rotate on their own as the boat comes under you. This is just anot...

Re: Pumps
To pump, or not to pump, that is the question: Whether 'tis Nobler in the mind to suffer The Slings and Arrows of FullGnarlz, Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles, And by opposing end them: to jump, to dump No more; and by a pump, to say we end The arm-ache, and the thousand Natural shocks That...
