Re: AC/DC review

sbroam --- I didn't mean to say it was unpleasant wading. Somewhat like my wading the length of the Chattooga Headwaters. I got to wade through many interesting boat outfitting projects, eventually getting to the slider bow seat assembly. You should be careful, though, about so much disclosure. Som...

Re: Bulkhead Saddles

:o Ah, if only I had patented and marketed the foam saddle I threw together out of Ethafoam packing slabs in 1973 . It did most of the things your modern thingy is designed to do, except it lacked those stupid Yakima toe jams. I could have made even less money than you will, because in 1973 it took ...

Re: AC/DC review

sbroam--- I sure had to wade through a lot of innovative technology to get to that shot of your bow slider setup. What did you use for the sliders? I ordered a slider setup from Harmony for our Bluewater, and it was *really* heavy. I drilled out the aluminum sliders to bring the weight down, but it ...

Re: AC/DC review

kaz, you have molds that were made by others... More than a few? And correction of flaws in molds can be difficult or impossible.

Accepting and working with such minor flaws allows boats like the AC/DC to continue to be available.

Re: Choosing a boat to convert

Reeves "The Hawk" had a very successful career in a converted Godzilla.

That Pyranha had an excellent reputation as a kayak, but I think the Godzilla might make a better "base" as a c-1.

Re: General Canoeing Technique Advice

I don't J and I don't carve, and I can paddle straight while on either edge. Good forward reach, not exaggerated, firm catch, blade feathered straight out to the side when passing the hip. During the catch, the bow pushes up a little mound of water on the side opposite the paddle. During recovery, t...

Re: Roll Problems/?

Your butt won't rise when you succeed in locating the pivot center of your hip snap within your pelvis. What you're experiencing is a symptom of trying to push up with the arms and upper body. Instead, think of your pelvis and hips as the roller of a window shade. You trip the roller and it reels yo...

West G-flex, though sometimes the result is lumpy and ugly.

Re: Air bag repair

Kelly Rand said, "So my theory is that constantly deflating, folding and storing and then reinflating causes the greatest ware on the material. Has anyone had the same experience?" I have a different hypothesis, that driving around with the bags flopping in the airstream causes leaks by repeatedly r...

Re: Cracked Taureau

Why would they not weld? Is the plastic crosslink?

A fix as described by West G-flex might work, if backed by inside cloth, resin or mastic.

Then there's the duct tape welding method, though I don't know if it would work on a larger split or tear.

Re: Weird cracks in 14' Mohawk

I might use a low angle chisel to bulldoze away the vinyl, and then put an S-glass or Kevlar patch on the denuded area. Maybe two layers would be enough. The repair should be larger by an inch all around so that a new D-ring has a firm foundation. Epoxy all the way.
