From many years of exhaustive academic research, (I once used a dictionary,) I can report that "canoeist" is the correct term.

From many years of single-sticking, I can report that no one gives a rat's ash what you CALL it, as long as you DO it -- often, and regularly!

ncdavid's reply to your question is well worth considering. Western Canoeing (Clipper) is licenced to produce composite Vipers. I have a 12', in "Kevlar Duraflex" (proprietary layup) which is bombproof, and has lasted over 20 years, with only minor repairs. If you want a lighter boat, you can specif...

Dead guy? Old guy? Old dead guy?

I wondered when someone would get around to mentioning the Canadian Senate.

Surely a worthy collective nominee for 'patron saint of old guys'.

(Though 'breathing still' has not yet been proven. . .)

What do you mean 'have I seen them?'

Since he retired, my grandson wears them all the time. . .

Nothing wrong with the Vertige-X. As the advertising suggests, it's a good boat for new tandem paddlers, and quite forgiving for new tandem teams. Yet it's lively enough to give experienced teams a good ride. Stability-wise, it's solid and predictable, yet lively. It's fairly quick off the mark and ...

un-Likely Paddlefest - mark yer calendar!

Time to remind y'all about the annual un-Likely Paddlefest, Sept 18 - 20, held at Likely, British Columbia, (about 1 hour from Williams Lake.) Trips on the Quesnel (III - IV), upper Cariboo (III - IV), and, for old farts like me, the lower Cariboo (II - III). Maybe a Monday expedition to the Chilko....

Hey Yukon, What a great letter. Congratulations on being right, and for having the guts to stand up proudly and get the message across. Keep on keepin' on! BTW did a road trip to the Yukon this summer. Couldn't see the vistas for the smoke, but great country, and great rivers. Next time, I'll bring a...

perception pedestal

If this is the old original Perception saddle, which came out 20 or so years ago, I found it to be: 1. Heavy 2. Ugly 3. Uncomfortable 4. All of the above. (And no, the hatch wasn't always waterproof.) I recommend a small nuclear device, and then a few evenings sculpting a work of art in mini-cell.

THANKS, YUKON, for the response. I'm full speed ahead -- looking forward to trying it on the water. My Piranha is also composite, from Western Canoeing in Abbotsford. Yours too??? Your comment about perception saddles and weight of your boat made me chuckle. The two ideas are possibly related?? I tr...

Resurrecting an old beluga

Hey folks My first solo boat was a Piranha, designed by the incomparable Nolan Whitesell. As the years passed, solo boats got shorter and edgier. As I added to my quiver, the old beluga got relegated to the dust and weeds behind the shed. Recently, at my wife's friendly suggestion, ("If you don't de...

From my experience, you could post signs at the put-in featuring words of more than one syllable. That usually confuses butt-boaterz, and they tend to head off upstream.
