Video Inspiration

Having recently rekindled my stick chasing tendencies, I found some of the footage on this site pretty awesome. The footage of the 1996 olympic gold run (“videogaleria” far right) blows me away, having floundered (and swum) my way down that Ocoee course in c-2 in 2001. http://www.michalmartikan.sk/ ...

Paddle Length

It does appear that today's racers are using shorter paddles. This link http://www.canoeicf.com/icf/WorldClassCanoeing/Development/Canoeing-Books-Online/Canoe-Slalom-E-Book.html has Endicott's case studies. The link to "Case Study Intros" gives his chart of old school height/weight/paddle length and...

Cutting boats

Larry- I pretty much followed Trevor's instructions to a "T".
http://www.treybay.com/MD_Page.htm
The only thing I did differently was to use a plug of minicell for the the nose. I think your boat would cut down pretty easily. ...edg

Radical Boat Surgery

Well- This pretty much puts my efforts at fixing small cracks and installing strap anchors in proper context. "Boat's a bit too narrow- We can fix that"...edg

Amoeba

If it handles like my "Tang" [1996 era Es-tang-uet" with the ends cut off] it should be a fun boat. I only wish I had the skill to have cut the middle out of the boat to keep the profile at the ends. As is, it's a bit hard to snap pivot around at 165 lbs...edg

Ahh- All the people who taught the people who taught me to kayak, filmed on what I still consider my "home" river. No wonder I migrated to c-1....edg

Paddle Sizing

Have a look at the chart and discussion. It doesn't gives the "why's" but does give height and paddle length of top slalom paddlers for comparison. Good luck...edg

T-Grip Installation tutorial

This is a link to a thread on a stand up paddleboard site, but it gives a pretty good pictorial of T-grip installation. It's very close to the way I install my t-grips on whitewater paddles. I've had some issues that have reduced me to paddling an oversized surfboard while standing on my feet, hence...

Alu Tip

Slight thread drift, but my very first slalom paddle (OK, it was K-1) had handwritten instructions from Davey Hearn on maintaining the Alu tip to prevent mushrooming. The secret is that you must use a file to keep keep the composite filed back from the tip. If you are paddling shallow whitewater, th...

Passing of a Legend (long)

I suspect some here may have known him in his racing heyday. This guy was a huge stud, and it will be a while before before someone like this comes along again. Next time you are on the water, take a couple of full throttle pulls in his memory, whether on whitewater, flatwater, or outrigger...edg Ch...

Hip pads

These are in French, but the pictures are pretty self explanatory if you can't read French. It's intended for c-2, but is easily adapted to c-1. Calage_hanches is the one on hip pads. For me, its important that the foam go all the way to the seam line to give a solid hold. Enjoy....edg http://www.ea...

cut down boats

Larry- I have not heard of anyone cutting the middle out of a boat, but I have heard of several people splitting a boat lengthwise and either adding or removing material to get the result they wanted (wider or narrower hull), so I assumed it was possible. In my current boat I can get the tail under ...

cut down boats

Larry- I cut down my Estanguet (front and back) to about 3.7m using these instructions. http://www.treybay.com/MD_Page.htm I've never done a cockpit re-do, and would be a bit afraid, unless I had "guidance". The cut down boat is a bit more nimble and handles a bit better. However, because I did not ...
