Re: Sacramento region
Jeez Jon, what a downer. I just don't see what you see. I paddled oc here for seven years, learning from absolute scratch, knowing no-one. I just drove to the rivers with my gear and begged my way on. I met all kinds of cool people to boat with. Never had any problems. Got encouragement all the way ...

Re: open canoes Cherry Creek
I assume you're talking about the Cherry Creek run (on the Tuolumne), rather than Upper Cherry (which is on Cherry Creek)? I never open boated it, but I met a super chill guy named Michael Latendres (sp?) in the late-ish 90's that had done it. He paddled a big ole Whitesell. I'm sure there are a few...

It's just part of the sport. What goes around, comes around, so don't even give it another thought. It's all good.

I don't think I would call it the strongest brace, but more often than not it's all you need.

Re: C1 conversion: straps v. bulkhead
Larry, Your description of the knee straps sounds very attractive, and is something I will definitely work on. Any tips on the kneepad strategy? My plan is to velcro some minicell wedges to allow for some adjustability in lieu of your wicked setup. Is the lateral bracing near the bow pillar in thos...

Re: C1 conversion: straps v. bulkhead
Pea pod, if you did replicate I would have to send my goons to pay you a visit  Check the knee straps out. The simple looking but very strategically placed knee pads are key to this setup too. I've done these with standard run of the mill snowboard straps for years. They are as solid as a knee...

Re: C1 conversion: straps v. bulkhead
I would use the snow board straps for your knees and get webbing/airplane buckles for your thighs. I would love to post pics of my newest setup but can't figure out how to do it without first uploading to a photo site... I'm kind of over it when it comes to registering on the web. Is there a way to ...

Re: curious about c1
I tried C1 (a brand new Atom) after 7 or 8 years in OC. While running big drops and staying dry in an OC was tons of fun. Having to bail when random class two waves crash over the gunwale was NOT. It was before pumps and I was just tired of it. In the Atom I found myself really struggling with the s...

Re: diy paddle blade
If you have all the broken parts you could just glass over it. It'll be really ugly, super heavy and it'll cost more for materials than it ever could be worth.
Really, it's not a good project.

Re: big hands seek winter paddling warmth?
I like to use a Pogie on the shaft and a glove on the t-grip. I often let go of the t-grip to push off a rock, or wipe my nose, or whatever, and I like to be able to quickly re-grip the t-grip. Hate it when there's a pogie in the way. There's more real estate on the shaft, so quick re-grips are not ...

Buster: People usually fit the straight rail to the curved hull with foam, it's not really a big deal. I was just curious if dave bent the tube.
Also Dave: have any pics of how the knee spreader and seat adjust?
