Re: Varathane or Varnish for Flatwater Canoe canoe?

If you already have the varathane I’d say go for it.

You could do a test. Try some varathane on a thwart for instance to see how it adheres to the current finish.

Of course, scrape, peel, sand, stripe etc. the old finish to remove all loose bits. Clean. Dry.

Keez, great idea. Don’t over think things: tape, carabiner, bottle. Simple.

I like to have all gear secured. I know paddlers have lost gear that was stuffed under airbags but not clipped in.

Re: Paddling Magazine article

I read “The Collector” article with a cup of tea in hand. Hats off to author Ian and the Paddling Mag team of Rapid Media. It was well balanced, C boats, history, the collection physical and virtual, community, pivotal events, key players, and current place in relation to newer platforms technologie...

I look forward to to reading it. The magazine is on my coffee table.

Thank you for the kudos. That was a longtime ago that I helped port those posts over.

Re: Quality breakdown paddle

I’m pleased with my Aqua Bound break-downs. I have a 2-piece and a 3-piece. https://aquabound.com/products/edge-1pc-whitewater-paddle I’ve heard good things about the Werner break-down. Didn’t know Shaggy Designs made break-downs. “ Both the shafts can be made into breakdown paddles upon request as ...

A 3 piece paddle fits crosswise against the saddle.

I put it into a mess bag and clip it in.

Re: What are you nifty water bottle carrier setups for a small solo canoe with bulkhead?

Lots of options.
I’ve made a hole in the bulkhead.
I’ve also shaped out the side of foam and used a bungee to secure a water bottle. Done that on both sides of the saddle forward as well as a just a single one in front.
On one C1 I did use a bike water bottle cage.

Re: C1 Conversion and recommended "Paddler Weight"- Need Advice!

In general, if I'm boating with kayakers then I like a C1 that is slightly longer than what the kayakers are paddling because it's a bit faster of a boat that helps make up for my single blade. And in general, because of the higher centre of gravity when paddling C1s, a slightly wider boat is prefer...

Re: C1 Conversion and recommended "Paddler Weight"- Need Advice!

What are the boat specs for dimensions? Sometimes a little wider or longer is better for a C1.
Volume-wise, I might go for the smaller volume as C1 paddler weight is very centred.

Re: DRY SUIT RECOMMENDATIONS

Good points so far.

I'm a Kokatat user and fan. I've got years as in over a decade on my first suit. Well made. Plus good service.

There is definitely the possibility of buying a used dry suit.

C-1 hulls are great, go ZER go.

Wavesport EZ made a good conversion. EJ paddled it both as a kayak and C1.
