Re: What Fabric for Boat Repairs
I have used both the style 6522 and the style 6533 S 'glass from Sweet Composites extensively. These are both plain-weave fabrics and I have had no problems wetting them out with G Flex epoxy. The style 6522 is a 4 ounce/square yard fabric and the 6533 a 6 oz/sq yd cloth. I would stay away from the ...

Re: Dagger going to manufacture Option?
Well, if it isn't an April Fool's joke and I decide I am in the market for an Option, I will buy one from Jeremy, or if he isn't making them anymore, a used one that he did make. Not from Dagger. Not ever. As far as I am concerned, they crapped the bed when they stopped making canoes. As an aside, I...

Re: Need advice on saddle position for Dagger Rival
Thanks for the tip. Yes, I have used a variation of that in-water technique to determine saddle position to provide proper trim for asymmetrical hulls. What I have usually done is to float the empty hull in the water and place wide tape strips parallel to and just above the water line, then get in t...

Need advice on saddle position for Dagger Rival
I have a friend who needs help reoutfitting a Dagger Rival which was set up for a much taller person. I know the pedestal needs to come forward but I'm not sure how much. Looking at the Rival hull, it is pretty asymmetrical. Can anybody suggest where the paddler's center of gravity should be relativ...

Re: Before I drill...
The conventional wisdom is that pulling the gunwales in on a boat increases the roundness of the hull cross sectional profile and reduces rocker. I have pulled in the gunwales on some whitewater Royalex boats up to about 2 inches and I have not noted much, if any change in rocker that I could see, f...

Re: The end of ESQUIF..... :(
Nolan Whitesell here, I've been unable to get in my canoes since my knee replacements so plan on selling my personal canoes as well as several "new" hulls which I saved for future use. The hulls were molded over 10 years ago which is why I refer to them as "new" Storage has been inside in ideal con...

Re: Nova Craft "Royalex light" experience
I believe you are correct. The lighter Royalex used by Nova was regular Royalex with a thinner sheet specification, not R84. If I remember correctly, judging by the weights listed by Nova on their website in comparison with the weight of the original Dagger Ocoee, the "Royalex Plus" was really just ...

Re: The end of ESQUIF..... :(
It looks as if there might soon be a composite Ocoee option as well: http://www.rapidmedia.com/whitewater/categories/news/4665-exclusive-first-look-the-echo-composite-ocoee.html?utm_source=newsletter_732&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=march-24&utm_campaign=website&utm_source=sendgrid.com&utm_medium=e...

Re: Novacraft Ocoee
Well begosh and begorrah, it looks like someone did make a composite mold for the Ocoee, although it isn't Nova Craft and it is not being made out of Tuff Stuff: http://www.rapidmedia.com/whitewater/categories/news/4665-exclusive-first-look-the-echo-composite-ocoee.html?utm_source=newsletter_732&utm...

Re: Novacraft Ocoee
Nova Craft is not making Ocoees out of T-formex because T-formex does not exist. Esquif canoe was attempting to develop T-formex (whatever exactly that is since Esquif wouldn't say) but now that Esquif has gone belly up T-formex won't happen, unless there is a rebirth of the company or some one else...

Re: What hull design most resembles the Dagger Prophet
I have a Prophet. I actually rather like it. I have only paddled a Spark one time. I suppose that a Spark hull sort of resembles a Prophet in some ways, but there are sure a couple of big differences. The Spark is considerably narrower and much quicker than a Prophet. The Prophet spins well, but it ...

Re: Cracked Taureau
I believe the material is polypropylene based. Most adhesives, including methacrylates, urethanes, and epoxies (including G Flex epoxy) won't bond durably to polypro unfortunately. My understanding is that polypropylene is, at least in theory, thermal weldable. It may be that Esquif has done somethi...

Re: Fiberglass thigh strap loops
Instead of rope I have used 1" wide tubular nylon webbing for thigh strap anchors. Although rope has a circular cross-section more like a D ring, I find that the webbing works just fine. I like the webbing because when the ends are frayed properly there are a lot more fibers to allow a more secure b...

Re: Weird cracks in 14' Mohawk
I assume it is a Royalex boat? I have seen the same several times. Multiple cracks on the hull interior underneath D rings (usually for thigh strap anchors) that go through the inner vinyl layer and extend through the inner solid ABS stratum just into the foam core without any visible external hull ...

Re: GOOP WARNING
Thanks for the heads up. I have heard others sing the praises of Plumber's Goop, but I have never been tempted to use it and probably never will. If I ever do, it certainly won't be on D ring patches. Are you sure that the threads were nylon and not polyester? I know others have not, but I have been...
