Fez, To tighten up my outfitting in the Taureau, I temporarily added a lap belt. It helped with the rolling a wee bit, but made me extremely nervous running rivers. For my piece of mind, I had to remove it. I did think of adding thigh straps and in retrospect probably should have gone that route bef...

Not too fond of the Taureau

My response is coming from a C1 perspective. I have been paddling a C1 for years and only occasionally paddle an open canoe, so my experiences may not exactly line up with yours. When I do paddle an open boat, it has mainly been my rather large Mad River ME (both solo and tandem). On the occasion wh...

Being the proud owner of one of them, I can say with certainty that Larry's carbon fiber saddle is amazing. It is so solid and so light in weight. And best of all when you crack a hull, you can pop the saddle into a new kayak with a minimum of fuss. That being said, I am glad Jackson Kayak is coming...

I liked the videos also. Learned a lot from the different approaches brought to the wave by the various paddlers. thanx for putting them out there.

Hey Pat, I might have given you one of the reviews, that started you on converting a Redline. I still love mine after 12 years, but luckily my thighs fit comfortably under the cockpit rim and don't get bruised. If I got bruised and tender thighs each time I did a run in the boat, I would probably ha...

OK. That makes sense and that has been my experience. The higher volume front ends keep pearling to a minimum.

Markzak,

Those are great photos and a good visual description of what you are conveying with your words.

Cam Cleats

Hi Tommy, In answer to your question about cam cleats, I have been using them since the late 1980's on almost all my C1's, except on those that are my play-boats. In fact, I just installed a cam cleat in the Pyranha Burn that I converted this winter. In view of this, I guess the answer to your quest...

A 27 inch width does seem too wide for a C1. 26 inches would be better. You don't need the stability and little extra dryness that increased width would add. Those factors are bumped down in importance when you have the enclosed deck. Making the boat a little more narrow, gives the added speed which...

I like the shorter boats for their manuverability and lower weight. Quick changes in direction and micro eddies are essential to my creeking style and shorter boats work better in that respect. I have owned 3 Gyramax's and a Taurus C1, so I have had experience with the longer boats. Now I mostly pad...

This past weekend I was in this very eddy on the West River that you described. If you botched the ferry, the wide pour over on river right would eat you for lunch. Luckly the ferry was on my on side, so it was a simpler problem than you had. However what removed almost all the stress was that if yo...

I have to agree that is a great set of photos on how to do a "rail" type conversion. I am bookmarking it. Thanks for putting all the effort into documenting the entire procedure. You have made it easy for the rest of us to follow, when the time comes.

I have found, at least in my stern heavy Redline, that the front end has too much volume and is too bulbous to perform easy bow pirouettes. Other people may have better technique though. Although it is a good river runner, it is not the fastest gal around. With that last comment, I think I've been l...

Larry,
That looks great! :D I have just bought a Pyranha Burn shell for creeking and will be starting my outfitting soon. Will you be starting your production in the near future? Do you have a price in mind? Will you ship out to the East Coast? Don't keep us in suspense.
