Re: Boat of the Week - Robson Finkenmeister

Wow, we are once again thinking about Der Finkenmeister :) . I have continued to paddle mine. It has been 6 or 7 years now, although for more serious water I had been paddling my Pyranha H3 conversion. Just recently broke the H3 so the Fink is now my primary float until a new Pyranha Burn arrives. A...

Re: Help. My roll has gone! I'm looking down, but can't C-it

To follow up on the previous post by Johnd......look UP at the surface before executing your hip snap THEN look down as you begin the snap. This gets your paddle closer to the surface on setup and then helps get that 8 lb head of yours involved in the snap :) .

Re: Boat of the Week - Dagger Cascade

Hello Jim,
I'd bet the Hornet is a good boat. How much would one cost? What would one weigh? Are you willing to make one?
P.S. Once upon a time we did a section of the East Pemi together with the AMC club:-).

Re: Boat of the Week - Dagger Cascade

I have had two Cascades. It was my go-to boat for difficult creeky water because of its forgiving nature and predictability - and it was easy to roll. It resurfaced stably when dropping waterfalls. Yes, it was a dog in easier water but you need to select the right boat for the task at hand, so to sp...

Re: Boat of the Week - Dagger Atom

I had an Atom for 8 years and it was my main boat for about 4 years - great for class 3 and 4 rivers, unpredictable in steep drops. It was a huge improvement over my prior boat , the composite Extrabat, as far as durability - I could really slam the Atom into a tight eddy, rocks be damned  . Th...

Re: Drakkar Wheelboy

I paddle mine at the Reno Whitewater Park. Great C1 playboat. I won't be selling it. I believe this was the last plastic C1 design introduced into the US market, and based on it's poor acceptance by the C1 community it will likely remain the last:-( It seems it was not a winner because by the time t...

Re: How to prepare body for max comfort (knees)

Cleve99, Stretching is critical, especially after 30, more especially after 40, and.. well you know the rest  . Given that, tailored outfitting is essential for comfort, a quarter inch trimmed here or there, extra padding, ankle blocks, the right shoes - whatever is necessary for a personal fi...

Re: C-California 2012 - SoFo Armada

Are we talking about a C-Boat Armada for one or two days on the South Fork American in the spring or early summer of 2012?

If so, count me in :) .

All we have to do is set a tentative date and the rest will begin to fall into place.

It will be a decade or two or three - if it even happens (hope so). But if it does....... five years afterward the newer boaters will have a good time poking fun at the old clunky boats of the early 21st century  and wondering how we managed to paddle them. The twenty-something year old of toda...

Hello Glenn MacGrady!

Along time ago (early 80's), you led a trip down Hudson Gorge on which I met some life-long boating friends. I haven't been in touch with you since that time.
Do you remember that trip? I'll never forget it.

Sorry For hijacking this topic.

My first C boat was a John Berry design, a C2 that I paddled with my brother Doug for several years - the 'Berrigan'. Fond memories!

Just as I thought. There is alot of creative thinking going on in the C Boater community :o . Mahyongg, Joshua - you might want to start tinkering if you have the time, or start talking to a tinkerer. The solutions seem expensive right now, but that could change down the line. Great input all around...

the trouble is.... big ideas + R&D + tooling + a myriad of other "things" cost real-->$ I have lot's of ideas... just not enough of the latter to bring them to fruition.. Craig, Try picking your best idea and put together a downscaled model. For example, try that special layup in sheet form, test i...

I nave not paddled in 30 yr but had an absolute bullet proof roll when I did. In over 200 trips on 100 rivers, the biggest, baddest we could find mostly IV, V & VI, I never had to come out of my C1 boat. I was ripped from my OC1 and swam a couple times(Gauley Iron Ring comes to mind) but never my C...
