Cartridge Life

The usage life of an organic vapor cartridge is approximately 8 hrs for styrene vapors. It is less in very high humidity. In between uses, store the cartridges in a zip loc bag and that will keep the degradation from humidity to a minimum.

Urethane resins

I have had some luck with repairing polyethylene hulls with the two component urethane resins used in tandem with "blue flaming". The two urethane resins that come to mind are the 3M Scotch Weld Urethane Adhesive and the Old Town Discovery Repair Kit. I have used both. The 3M Scotch Weld Urethane ad...

Respirators

Bill, The rubber or silicone rubber respirators that can be equipped with cartridges will protect you against the solvent vapors and the fiberglass particles. They generally sell in the hardware stores for $30. The trick is getting the correct cartridges for the respirator. For polyester resin, the ...

Hi MotorCity, In the past Liquidskills use to have C1 Playboating instruction on the Ottawa. I went up there one week in mid- August and discovered that the C1 Playboat instruction was the week before and the instructor was away. I had to take the playboat instruction with a group of kayakers, what ...

You have some Good ideas

Adam, Thanks for the Outfitting description and photo s. :D As I haven't finalized my Wheelboy set-up, it's always great to see what others are doing. I was going to glue in a bulkhead, but your pressed-in idea is intriguing. I also put the rear anchor for the thigh straps in the "flat spot". Like y...

Newly modified Wheelboy

Hi Bill,
Now that you spent a weekend on the Lehigh :D , could you give your opinion of your newly modified Wheelboy? How does it feel in comparison to the standard thigh strap set up? Could you take some photos of its interior and post a link to them?
thanks
Jack

Foam above the knee

Hello Bob, I tried the boat again. Left the knee supports in as you suggested, and it felt alright. I will probably get use to them. My balance is improving all the time, and can do pretty good flatwater bow stands with the Wheelboy now. The cartwheels are coming along but are not there yet. My old ...

First Impressions

Facts about myself: I am 5’11” and weigh 186 lbs. From what I understand, this is the very upper end of the design range. I have been C1-ing for 20 plus years. C1 is my major whitewater activity with some tandem open boat and occasional C2 runs thrown in for good measure. I have owned and tried a fa...

FS: Hydra Duet ( Plastic C2) with skirts, $300

The Hydra Duet is a plastic (cross linked polyethylene) C2. It can take a beating and it keeps on giving. The boat for sale here is actually both a C2 and a C1. It was made with a center hole (3 holes total). When running tandem, a cover is placed on the center hole. When running solo, covers are pl...

Hip Pads

C1 Junior, In trying the boat out on the cellar floor last night, there was only about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch clearance between the side of the cockpit and each of my hips. Hardly enough to warrant hip pads. I am going to paddle it a bit without the pads to test it out, but in the end knowing myself a...

Bulkhead in the Wheelboy

Boise Bob, I just got my Wheelboy this evening and am excited to get it into action. :D I converted a Dagger Redline into a C1 with a bulkhead and it worked out really well. I stay tight but can exit real easy. I am interested in seeing how the bulkhead looks and fits in your Wheelboy. Would it be p...
