Need advice on saddle position for Dagger Rival

I have a friend who needs help reoutfitting a Dagger Rival which was set up for a much taller person. I know the pedestal needs to come forward but I'm not sure how much. Looking at the Rival hull, it is pretty asymmetrical. Can anybody suggest where ...

... of the lap belt. I could never find it fast enough. Whenever I went paddling after that I would always choose to paddle My L'edge or my Rival. After a year I took the Airhead out again. Same outfitting sans lap-belt. Roll was 50-50. Not good. I never paddled it again. I didn't want to ...

Re: New Millbrook boat for wife - Flashback vs. Shacho

ezwater, I had thought about the Rival also - I probably should have mentioned it too. I have wondered if it might be on the big side for her versus say a typical male. The Rival does appear to have a good all around hull design.

Re: New Millbrook boat for wife - Flashback vs. Shacho

For what you want, I would take a Rival over a Flashback.

A friend paddles nothing but Rivals, because of their good cruising, predictable ww behavior, and ease of rolling.

If your wife can learn cab forward paddling, she will not need to J stroke or rudder very often.

Actually, if you look at the "kevlar Rival" pic from the Mike Yee website, you can see what I mean.

Have a Taureau and paddle it mostly when I'm looking for a little bit of a challenge or when I am thinking ...

Re: Bob Foote boats?

The boats that I am aware of that Bob designed, or had a hand in designing were the Dagger Genesis, Dagger Rival, Dagger Ovation, Dagger Phantom, Bell Prodigy, and Bell Prodigy X, Bell Nexus, Navarro Loon 16 and Loon 17, Navarro Egret, Navarro Pursuit, and Navarro Whisper. Oh ...

Re: Canoe for the Grand Canyon

... about 4" rocker. I had a Dagger Genesis years ago that would make an excellent Grand Canyon boat, very much like the Nexus. I also have a Dagger Rival that's been down the Grand twice by a previous owner, on raft-supported trips. I'd take that boat, too, though it's a bit shorter. What you want ...

Re: Canoe for the Grand Canyon

I have not done it...but my friend the legendary Jim Michaud has several times and maybe he will chime in here. I think your instincts are right: longer and faster. Bob Foote designs like Rival or Genesis would work as would many other long boats. I would go with the Outrage.

... basher or paddle mostly shallow sharp rocked rivers, coming from the Probe 14 I think you'd like an Outrage, Probe 12 II (if you could find one), Rival, or Prodigy X...they are all in the 12' range. It would be in your interest to hook up with some fellow paddlers and try different solo boats...especially ...

Dagger Ocoee and Rival.

I have an Ocoee that needs some work, still floats but could use a little kevlar/s-glass reinforcement. $150 and a Rival that has already received said layup work a few times, would be suited for class II runs. $100. O.B.O.
