Re: Kayaker dislocated shoulder moving to oc1

My experience, I was just getting to class 3 paddling in a kayak when I dislocated my shoulder. It was my first summer in a kayak having grown up canoeing. After the dislocation, I could not get comfortable in a yak. I got an open boat and started paddling again in class 1 just surfing waves and fer...

Re: Paddle length?

Not that I am any sort of expert, but I am 5'7" paddling an outrage and use a 56 most of the time because that is what I have. However, I used a 58 the other day and liked it. I think I am getting a new paddle this summer and plan on it being a 58.

Re: How much rocker should a WW canoe have for class 2 - eas

So i typed out a bunch of stuff and did not like the way it sounded so here is my simplified opinion.

The more rocker, the more play. If you want to or need to catch lots of eddies and make tight moves, get more rocker. You want to just run through, less rocker.

Re: carry your own canoe

I just let my saddle rest on my head and walk, but that might not work for you. My wife is 5 foot and 100 pounds. The only way I could see her moving my Outrage would be with a set of portage wheels. You may look into that option.

Gear Swap

The Dan River Company in Danbury, NC is hosting a gear swap from 9 to 5 Sept 2nd (Sat). It is open to anyone. Bring your paddling gear to sell or trade. by long

By long, I meant compared to other new WW boats being made, like the L'edge. Please understand, I am not knocking Wenonah. I have been paddling and loving them since dad put me in a canoe for the first time in 86. Also, Wenonah makes a boat called the Wee Lass that is 12-6 if I recall correctly. How...

Wenonah Recon

So as I am looking through the OR footage, I see Wenonah is coming out with a 13 foot c1. I am a huge Wenonah fan, and I can not wait to hear more about this boat. Any thoughts on the boat? I have to question the velcro outfitting. I wonder if it will hold? I also find it interesting that they came ...

cool canoe

That really is a cool boat. We are the same height/inseam. I use a 56 and am happy with it in my Outrage. It felt long at first, but I like it now. I can tell you that I plan on getting paddles in 54 and 57 or 58 to play with.

outside chance

There is an outside chance I will make it up. Unfortunately, my oc1 has all the outfitting pulled out right now so if I make it I will either be in a borrowed whitesell, or a torrent. How long are they running the water?

trailer

On a trip to the BWCA, we used a utility trailer to haul 2 minn2 canoes and a weeks gear for 4 people. 4 people in the subaru Forester. I normally got 28 to 30 highway mpg and got 24 or 5 with the trailer and a pretty big load. That was with a 5 speed stick. We ran from Ohio to Minnesota so we did n...
