... excel at anything but is good to go for everything! I'd paddle either ...if they were the only options! If there were other options...well! :) The Scamp as an OC2 for a lighter team isn't that bad. Pretty forgiving too for a couple of klutz paddlers - like boy and I! Paul C.

I just finished re-outting a scamp for the Down River Nationals as an OC2. This boat has retired so many times its sort of a running joke now. And that was before it was semi-permentatly loaned to me. :o We used it last year at the Nationals ...

Impression of Mohawks Scamp

... Nolan Whitesells design before the Pirahna. I don't believe the world war 1 design of the Pirahna was an improvement on this boat. Personaly the Scamp reminded me of a large Encore. The boat was very quick with direction changes, stable and had pretty good glide. Set up tandem it was a tad wet ...

... to mold hulls on his Piranha mold. As part of the agreement Mohawk culd use the same mold to make a OC1 that they could market. Essentially, a Scamp is the same hull as a Piranha, but that is all those two boats have in common. Nolan built his boat with a more funneled (wider) bow and stern ...

Just noticed . . .the Scamp's dimensions in the "search boats" library are correct, but its weight is listed as 28 pounds.

82 might be correct. :o

Re: Scamp...

... Probe was under repairs. I was ecstatic to have a tandem boat for a few critical weekends. At the same time, I was equally ecstatic to return the Scamp to Jim. My observations: 1) REALLY (*&^*%& HEAVY 2) KIND OF WET 3) VIRTUALLY INDESTRUCTABLE It's very much a boat in the style of the Whitesells. ...

Scamp

When Whitesel first started out he used Mohawks facilities/equipment to mold his boats. The Scamp was his first effort(?). The Scamps bow and stern were pulled in unlike the Whitesel's which were probably pulled out 4". I had one in the day and widened the ends . It did ...

... happy to paddle 10 times/year so I took the old 16 footer out solo a few times. Quickly decided a smaller boat was in order and picked up a used Scamp. After a few months lugging that around decided, that was too big - Shaman time. Wow - I thought what a hot rod! Paddled the Shaman for several ...

... Now we have a Old Town Appalachian for tandem trips. My daughters and I take the tandem boat for class II runs when we came find time. A Mohawk Scamp was my first solo WW Canoe after the WW16. Next came Whitesell's; couple of Piranha's and a Descender. I've been paddling a Dagger Caption solo ...

Bruce,

I know some folks down south who were shut out - Let me email them and get back to you.

Marshal - If you need a boat I can get ahold of a Scamp outfitted tandem. Let me know - best if its load is under 300 #.
