I'm certainly not a rodeo paddler, but I use curved slalom blades all the time and find that switching from the power face to the back face is not confusing and very easy to manage. I'm a little surprised at Paolo's comment about carbon shafts being too stiff, because my Mitchell has a very flexible...

I make skid plates totally out of cloth and West epoxy. I prefer S-glass, but will use e-glass if that's all I have. Many don't realize that Kevlar felt does not make a particularly good skid plate. It has two things in its favor, the Kevlar name, and the fact that Kevlar felt holds together well wh...

Not sure you'd need to order a "custom" skirt for an Acrobat. Probably the $89 skirt you can get through Rapidstyle would fit the Acrobat. The same skirt fits my Zealot, which has a 19" by 22" cockpit. http://rapidstyle.com/ I acquired a "medium" Rapidstyle when I bought a used Wide Ride, but it has...

You don't mean "gelcoat" do you? Dagger boats (I have a Zealot) were made with a thin layer of epoxy paint. Upstream Edge boats had pigmented resin in the first layer, I believe. That there are cracks through the pigment is of no consequence. The question is, do the cracks go through the outer layer...

Since you are in NE, you could contact Kaz at Millbrook and see if he has a Wide Ride for you to try. One advantage of a composite boat is that many different cockpit rims can be installed. Kaz could put one in to allow you to sit high. The Wide Ride looks kind of Old School at first glance, but pad...

If you don't have a bandsaw, you can get very clean cuts using a long blade on a jigsaw. Just take it slow and keep the sole plate of the jigsaw flat on the minicell. I used my jigsaw when cutting walls for my old Noah, and the results were great.... nice, square edges, roughened just enough to take...

Checked for the address on Google, and it is probably still good. Davey's e-mail is:

Mr naill I have a Zealot slalom boat for which I am now too heavy, and I have a Millbrook Wide Ride which I have only paddled a few times. I am still outfitting it. Because I am very tall above the hip bones, I figure that for any specific purpose, some extra hull length is OK. If I were converting ...

Mr. Rogue.... One reason some of us hyper-pronate our ankles in c-boats, rather than using foot blocks, is that some of us are 6' 5" with size 14-15 feet. So our feet have to lay flat. Even if there were enough room for us to get up on our toes, the result would be increased flexion at the knees, wh...

So, what is it, a Synergy? I paddle our MR Synergy solo much of the time, and surprise some onlookers with what I can do with it. As a tandem, the Synergy is rather wet, though a fast cruiser for a highly rockered boat.

Or maybe you have an Explorer 15, but you have to tell us!

Here's where to find the computer 3D.

Maybe you can see why I thought it was a kayak from the computer stuff. Appeared to have prominent knee space for a kayaker.

Check out proto for C-1 playboat.

At first, when I only saw their computer 3D, it looked like a kayak, but the photos of their prototype show something different.

An alternative to using a shorter paddle for quicker motion, or to reduce shoulder loading, is to use a lighter paddle with a blade that is the right size for your preferred stroke rate, bracing style, and rolling style. I am using slalom paddles in my C-1s, and I have no difficulty with quick strok...
