Re: ACA Canoe Instructor Course: April 28 to May 4

That sounds great. The flaw is I may be flying. I am teaching a Wilderness First Responder at the University of the Ozarks when I am there, but might be able to get an afternoon free. I could always fly my gear if I can borrow a boat when I arrive...

From what I have seen of Pelly, I expect to see him representing Team Canada in the not so distant future!

You are supposed to give it 24 hours for a full cure...I gave it almost 3 to reattach a d-ring that was pulling out. It held for 2 runs down the Upper Gauley this weekend. I like it!

Jack Ditty Crushes the Gauley Race in a C-1!

Major props go to Jack Ditty for posting the fastest time of the day against all boats at the 19th Annual "Animal" Upper Gauley Race. Jack's time of 53 minutes and 10 seconds in his wildwater C-1 is an impressive feat and I wish him the best at the Russell Fork Race in October! In other impressive c...

Looks awesome...take it off the carpet and scratch it up!

I am excited about easier accessibility for newbie outfitters!

Waldens Ridge Whitewater is carrying Big Dogs or you can contact Gavin Rains, the Eastern Rep (pm me for his number).

My muscular issue is a bit different, but I am a firm believer in the effectiveness of the Theracane. It has helped me immensely over the years. They are reasonably priced and I know you can order one from Paul Mason's site: www.bubblestreet.ca This might not fix your issue, but it can help and it i...

The Green Race is always the first Saturday in November. The first racer starts at 12 noon. I used to go first, but in recent years canoers haven't started until closer to 3-3:30. Here is a great link for folks interested in hiking in, camping, or paddling the Narrows. You can also link to descripti...

I definitely like the new version of the Big Dog Kaos (the one in Alex's video) better than the older version (the one stolen at US Team Trials). I agree with Bob that it has a better balance to it. It is much faster than the BlackFly, Salsa and CUfly. The BlackFly handles well and is available in p...

Esprit is awesome and Jim is excellent. Closer to home, you could check with Landmark Learning www.landmarklearning.org. I normally teach a couple of ACA swiftwater courses through them each year. I know they also offer Rescue 3 International courses, but you probably would prefer the ACA version. L...

I agree, that pic is of Corkscrew rapid (the second of the five falls). If you swim there, you are headed straight towards Crack in the Rock which has claimed many lives at a variety of levels (several at lower flows when swimmers were more relaxed). We used to joke that Crack in the Rock isn't a ra...

Roll Clinic on Wed?

I don't know how full everyone's summer schedules are, but I am available to work with folks on their canoe rolls on Wednesday. I could probably make another day work before I fly to Wyoming on the 7th of August if there is enough interest. Alternatively, suggest an alternative date; I will be avail...

Stolen Canoes Recovered

Big thanks to Stongwater Kayaks In Missoula, Montana for keeping an eye out and Locating the two canoes stolen during last year's US Team Trials. The Big Dogs Kaos (Mark II) and Jake's Jackson OCX were spotted in a local pawn shop and the police have been notified. Please thank this shop for their e...
