Re: L'Edge or OCtane1 ?

My light L'edge has held up since I got it in October. It is a much better boat than the original. The original version is too heavy, so it is sluggish and feels like work to get moving. The light L'edge is fun to rockspin, boof and surf. It is definitely faster and I have landed hard onto numerous ...

Whitewater Scrubs by Jamie McEwan
It is really about kayaking, but I switch a few words around and include some cross bow action for my kids.

Re: Carrying gear on a Spanish Fly?

If you use a Watershed Ocoee, it will fit tight against the back of your saddle and the straps will wrap around your rear tharwt. This setup works well. While video boating I attach the Watershed Ocoee to the front tharwt and let the bag sit on my knees. It is out of the way and protected by your bo...

Re: ALF/Pre-ALF Workshops

ALF is friendly to everyone and you will progress as a Canoer if you show up and paddle with anyone there. However, if you would like my personal focus and energy to aid you early on, contact me, this is least expensive instructional offering I will have in 2013.

ALF/Pre-ALF Workshops

Interested in progressing at ALF, but not interested in hearing folks yell "Stand Up, Get yer S*%@!" while you push yourself to new limits? The Canoe Guru is offering a limited amount of canoe instruction during ALF, and a special rate for those who choose to be in the area beforehand. Please refer ...

Re: 2010 L'Edge Debate.

I have to respond to the claim that you can purchase a BlackFly Canoe for $500 less than an Esquif Canoe. Please refer to the 2013 Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices: According to the BlackFly website, the Ion, Option and solo Octane are each listed at $1,550. The tandem Octane is listed at $1,8...

I hope you have already found something fun to paddle, but if not, I live in Buncombe County and could let you demo a L'edge or a Vertige.

Re: Spanish Fly for Overnight Trips

I picked up a Gaia Sto-Float Airbag so I can fit my gear inside the Spanishfly on overnighters. For just a few days, I think the Spanishfly is fine. Don't overpack. Sleeping gear and food are really all you need. I am intrigued by the new "lifestraw" water filter. Consider drinking whiskey instead o...

Re: Big Dog Force OC-1

I may not be the best person to offer a review. It seems to surf, boof and roll well for me. If you would like to compare The Force to the Spanishfly, let me know when you are in Western North Carolina. I have the best of Esquif and the Big Dogs available to demo. (in other words, no decked boats av...

Re: Lightning Canoe Paddles

I am using two Robson paddles I picked up in Germany last summer. I prefer a curved blade, so that is what I picked up. The tgrip is a different shape than I am used to, but I adjusted quickly. They have a nice balance and seem to be pretty durable. I have bashed the one with a skull graphic pretty ...

Re: drysuit question

Paul Gunderson, owner of OS Systems Drysuits in Oregon always made me laugh. The one man that doesn't have to take care of a drysuit, does. I try to, but at times mine gets treated like Richards. Paul is a great guy and he has learned a lot in his 30 years of making suits and seals. He has lots of i...

Re: Newbie

My father, Paul Helbert, lives just North of Harrisonburg, VA. Although he is into building and sailing small boats now he is still a good Canoer and a great resource for the area. Send me a pm or email and I will give you his contact info.
The Coastals are also a great club...
Cheers,
Eli
