Re: we've come quite far...

The tandem OCs all had full skirts. I wonder what they had for floatation. 1957, wow

I have a painter on my stern that goes to a spring-cam-cleat by the front of the cockpit. that I find very useful and safe. I use it to tie off my boat or to toe loose kayaks. I have always had one on all my c1s.

ya I'm interested, but I've never run it. The photo array makes it look like something where you might want some direction. They are great photos that really show the drops. I have put some time in with my Fink this spring so I figure I'm up for it.

Thats not really true, the closed deck traps the wamth of you legs and warms you quite effectivly splashy water or not.

Yet another C1 advantage, they are much warmer than open boats in cold weather, or to put it plainly, when the rivers are up. I would not even make mention of this were it not for the constant derogatory coments about C1s by ob people. I would think we are more akin than different.

The main thing is that you want something supple with little or no heel. A heel can catch on the cockpit rim when wet exiting. I ware NRS Desparados. Mine are old so I hope they make them the same. I also remove the elastic draw string & springholder thing that are uncomfortable when kneeling.

My Cascade is a 94(cool colors back then). Made of some tough stuff still no oil-caning. My cockpit is good too. I have heard about cracks & the cockpit rim?

All of the contributions above are thoughtful, and insightful. I agree with all that has been said.

I have an old DAGGER paddle from the 80s. It says DAGGER and has a Mad River wise rabbit on it, tapered oval shaft, same t-grip, aluminum laminated in the tip. Really good paddle I have taken it out of service though.

Hey Jordan, That is one magnificent boof. Bravo Man! I am also very pleased to see the strong support for AW. I am a stream keeper, and I think the national ww stream data base is an amazing thing. Its a really good thing we have AW.
