Re: Boat of the Week - Robson Finkenmeister

The low volume stern keeps me from getting stern squirted real hard(& flipped & subsequent loss of speed...)when I'm a little off line(nothing for the hole to grab). Lean it a little and it eddies like a champ. Not slow, I like the boat. Rand P.S. I don't use hip pads the bulkhead seems to do it for...

Re: Boat of the Week - Robson Finkenmeister

I also have a Fink. I dont have much to add to what PAC said, thats pretty much the case. It took me awhile to love my Fink but its my boat now. I am in the cockpit as far forward as it will allow. When you roll, your arms need to be forward over the deck. It definetly saved my butt on the UY a few ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Dagger Cascade

A Cascade's factory outfitting must be modified as with any C1. I have knee cups and toe bocks in mine and added to the pedestal height. I also have a Fink, another purpose-built C1, and it required substantial modification. But, it really is an easy rolling boat. They are used to teach the canoe ro...

Re: Boat of the Week - Dagger Cascade

The Cascade is an old boat hull design, I get that. But I love the classic C1 shape of the Cascade. Its the old William Nealy C1 look.

PS It doesn't "paddle like a log" sounds like oc issues

Thats Aaron's first run. Nice save right on the lip. It looked real bad from below. I'm glad somebody got that on vidio.

Re: River of the Year - Stoney Creek River

I need my hull speed, so the Ion was not a hit with me. However, I loved the Option right off, great boat. It was very cool to get the opportunity to test drive some current ob designs, thanks guys. I think Mark liked the Fink.

Re: Reaching Canoeing Nirvana

Cross bow is most important when you are eddied up on (what would be) the wrong side of the river and you need to upstream cross bow ferry out of the eddy. Otherwise you can only paddle(eddy) the one side of the river. Its a skill you need to get.

Re: Reaching Canoeing Nirvana

Ego is just one of the things that make us do the things we do(such as running a big scary drop). Its not good or bad, its just there. There are so many different kinds of paddlers with different things motivate them, its very cool sport. Looking at our own boating and coaching other C boaters is wh...

Re: Reaching Canoeing Nirvana

So, the Gnarly boater presses the envelope of his current skills(just enough hopefully)and thus advances his paddling skills. Helped along by his ego and peer pressure(and coaching, hopefully) from his paddling friends. There hows that, close right.

Ok, so narlyness is say... hanging on for a tough roll and getting it (having GUTs). Then sick nastiness is running horrific, scarry drops, do I have this right. Rand

Re: The Great[ly Ignominious] C1 - OC1 Debate...

I think an open boat gives a great ride all that volume, wave trains are so fun. I love my Fink, quick & responsive, and when I get flipped I'm up right now. Love your vessel,
