Re: Perception gyramax for flat water
Gyramax is an old school whitewater boat. It's fast compared to modern whitewater boats, but it's not appropriate for what you want to use it for. Oh, you could paddle it hard for 10 miles and get a workout, but it would be like doing a road ride on a mountain bike with soft tires and a loose headse...

Re: Replcement gunwales - where do I get them?
If you don't want to mess with trying to ship full length gunwales, I've heard good things about these:

Easy stuff in the SE with my son, last week of March
Any families on here interested in paddling with my 10 yo son and me during the last week of March or on one of the surrounding Saturdays? We're planning on being based in Bryson City, NC and doing easy stuff like the Tuck, Little T minus the narrows, Nanty, etc. C-purists be warned, my son prefers ...

Re: Trailer advice
I can tell you what not to do :D Don't convert/customize a 5x8, steel, 15" wheel landscaping trailer. Way too heavy. A friend did this - extended the tongue, welded up a pair of uprights with integrated stackers, attached one of those diamond plate locking tool boxes, and installed a cedar floor. It...

Does this make me a pro boater? ;)
Break.com just paid me $150 for the rights to my failed roll clip, so in theory I just got paid to paddle.

Re: Varnish/sealant for wooden t-grip?
Thanks, everyone. I have both spar varnish and tung oil in the shop. Probably will go with the varnish, since the original varnish lasted ~10 years, and I've never had issues with blisters.

Varnish/sealant for wooden t-grip?
I've owned my Bandit long enough that the finish is long gone from several spots on the laminated wooden t-grip. I figure I should sand it down and refinish it before water damage gets beyond repair. Is basic spar varnish ok for this? That's what the original finish feels like to my hand. I tried as...

Re: Whitewater Rating System - Is It OK As Is?
And then don't forget the open boating version of the international scale of difficulty: Class I, Easy. Fast moving water with riffles and small waves. Swimming is pleasant, shore easily reached. A nice break from paddling. Almost all gear and equipment is recovered. Boat is slightly scratched. Clas...

Re: Whitewater Rating System - Is It OK As Is?
I can't speak for the class 5 end of this spectrum, or for the rapids I haven't run personally, but all of the ones in these lists that I have run align quite well with the standard class descriptions. They aren't very well publicized, however. I don't think you can get to them by using AW's menus -...

PA/WV Class 3 this weekend - Oct 19-20
I have a free weekend for once. Is anyone interested in something class 3ish in PA/WV? Probably have to be dam release unless the predicted rain mid week is bigger than anticipated. Looks like the Stonycreek may get a release. I've been on that a couple of times at different levels, and it's a fun r...

Re: ONE piece of gear to make paddling more enjoyable...
Since you threw in flatwater, I'd probably agree with you that a good paddle is the best place to spend $$ if you have limited funds. Nothing takes the fun out of a day more than using a poorly desgined, heavy paddle. If it was just whitewater, I'd put the paddle second behind good drywear. During m...

Will work on the elbow thing. I'm not a natural athlete, so it takes this sort of deliberate analysis for me to figure a motion out.

Re: Ok, my turn to ask for OC roll help
Hey man, I want to see the video. Here you go. Finish is still slow/labored. More work to do. http://youtu.be/0bZv_7DxbVo Went to a pool last night (no video) and concentrated on driving from the knees and making the rotation happen faster. That improved things some more, but I still don't like how...
