Re: best way to waterproof bolt holes in a c1 conversion.

Gflex works like a dream. Silicon stands a chance but i doubt it will last very long.

Re: Creeking in an Ion (or anything small) vs. L'edge?

Smerdas photos are helpful and these are the Ion pics I have for now and it will be dark when I get home tonight, but I can post more over the weekend. What is interesting to me about the L'edge is that the CAD design shows a flatter and edgier planing hull than the production boat. Note the more ro...

Re: Creeking in an Ion (or anything small) vs. L'edge?

I think gumpy has it right, you're looking for an open boat built on a playboating hull like the Spanish Fly and Ion. I've paddled a Prelude, Spanish Fly, and Ion a lot...and many other open boats. Coming from C1 creekers and playboats, and creekboats with planning hulls and displacement this and th...

rock boofs or water boofs? No, just kidding...all good advice here. I personally would like to emphasize the need to keep the paddle vertical through the stoke, keep you weight over your paddler, spot your landing before you take the boof stroke and keep your eyes on your landing spot the whole way,...

If I really planned on using the boat on some whitewater, I would gflex fill in some of those areas, maybe use the filler with the gflex like fiberglass shreds or west system 406 filler. Then I would patch over that gflex spot with a good sized sheet of kevlar cloth or felt, or any cloth really. You...

Fluid Kayaks just came out with a plastic slalom boat too called the Donsa. A good friend of mine just bought one for around $600 new. They're cheaper than other kayaks I heard because they're not made as thick as other kayaks. I do not think the Donsa is a practical conversion no matter how badly I...

I employ the upstream ferry when i need to scrub speed. Its especially good for high volume runs as youre not likely to catch an edge or clip a rock unexpectedly when youre going backwards. Not always the best way to go, but its an option.

Anthony's review is on point with everything I would say. Good stuff. Another thing to add is that I think the Option seems more controllable and maneuverable with water in it and even full of water than the L'edge. We're talking about two really great boats here and finessing over small details, so...

Yeah, I know, but its the same boat as the Outrage, and the mold is now at Mad River Canoes, is my point. Or at least I think.

Isn't the Royalex Outrage made by Mad River Canoes these days. You could contact them or better yet contract a dealer like Blue Mountain Outfitters and see if they can make it work for you. I don't see why Mad River couldn't make one for you out of Kevlar or whatever composites they work with on som...
