Re: Wet suit vs dry suit

Dry suit all the way. Wet suits are okay for cool water when the air temp is warm and good for abrasion protection on sharp rocky runs. The price of a quality dry suit can be discouraging but it's probably the best investment you can make for boating

Re: Gluing ABS to PE?

Dave - did you get your L'lite? +1 for welding. I had a small crack in mine under the front of the bulkhead that came out real nice. I've tried adhering GFlex and regular West system to PE with flame treatment as an experiment and it didn't work out. I got a very expensive 2 part epoxy from 3M desig...

Re: Protecting royalite? Foam exposed

If it's actually into the foam then yes. You will want to patch that up! My old Ocoee was into the foam and became soft/delaminated quickly

Re: Probe 12 vs Ovation for beginner

I'd be suspect of any boat being sold for $100. The condition is likely very poor and you may spend more time mending it than paddling it. The Ovation was my first boat. It has a bit of a reputation as a poor performer but I found it to be a friendly boat for beginners, and every bit as good as the ...

The Notakwanon River in Labrador. While a dream trip, it's still realistic in terms of time and cost. Sights on for 2015.

L'edge Lite - “Guillaume-fitting”

From Esquif's website, describing the double strap system available in the L'edge. Can anyone describe this or post a picture of it?

Re: Broken paddle blade

Thank you for the suggestions. No doubt Mitchell could fix it and fix it well. However I'm not putting money into it. The paddle has several other ailments and there are several other paddles on the rack to use. I'm going with the bandaid approach and we'll see what happens!

Broken paddle blade

I have a Mitchell Premier with a broken blade. The blade was caught between rocks and broke about one third of the way up from the tip. It's not completely broken off, but the carbon facing is cracked and if pressure is applied it's pretty obvious that the wood core is comprimised too. My plan is to...

Re: Whitewater Canoe Paddle

Lots of great paddles out there as well as threads to search through on the subject. One paddle that isn't mentioned often but has really impressed me is Shaggy Designs. I got one this season and I really like it.

Re: Probe 12i/13 vs Outrage x

There is a probe 12 and outrage in the group of guys i paddle with. FWIW the outrage is far preferred by everyone of us, even the owner of the probe 12.

Re: Canoe instruction... why do so few of us pay for it?

Getting canoe instruction is like asking for directions - most do not want to admit they need it. Plus, and most importantly, canoeists as a whole are cheap

Re: Royalex is dead?

Isn't the biggest issue with a glass boat the abrasion? How about a glass boat with a thin PE skin/skid plate on the hull that can be repaired/replaced?

I've taken my last twin tex wound. Every time I loaded the Zephyr I'd end up with twintex fibers in my forearms.

Re: Pumps

Like the airbag is to the inner tube, so is the electric bilge pump to the bleach bottle with the top cut off. Most people have always used something to bail water. Now there is something half decent to do it. (GASP technology). Don't get your paddles in a knot.
