Re: Who makes an adjustable height pedestal?
One simple way to set it up is to have your pedestal go the full length between the thwarts and have 2 positions - 1) bow forward, low saddle, 2) stern forward, high saddle - One side cut low for bigger whitewater, then just spin the boat around the other way and have that side of the pedestal cut h...

Re: Taking my kids to NC 3/28-30. Anyone interested?
The tuck below Dillsboro is a great, fun run that won't be too challenging for the kids. You could put the kids in inflatables (Tuck Outfitters) if you don't have another adult...

Re: Thoughts on a Blue Hole Sunburst
I spent a lot of time in a sunburst on the Nanty, Ocoee, and Chattooga - of course that was years ago when the sunburst was pretty much cutting edge. It is definitely a larger boat than today's designs, but stable. If I recall correctly, the Sunburst 2 added either a bit of rocker at the ends or a l...

Re: tandem oc2 tips anyone
There's a reason they call these Dee-Vorce boats... But that said, in my racing days, especially Mixed OC-2 and C2 I often paddled bow and my female partner was stern. My favorite racing partner and I didn't need to talk a lot - Our stroke rates matched fairly well, She was very comfortable making c...

Re: Boat of the Week - Millbrook (and others) ME
That is a definite classic. I spent more time in the Royalex version but even then it was an extremely responsive boat. No question the Composite version by Millbrook was lighter and a bit more responsive. I paddled it solo and tandem - It was a very long time after shorter boats showed up before so...

Re: '96 Ocoee blast from the past
Martikan's boat was based on the Fanatic, but he was only about 140 lbs at the time - so it was specially cut just for himKNeal wrote:Or was Martikan's Fanatic modified differently with the cut in the volume?

Re: '96 Ocoee blast from the past
He should know how much it cost to install the Ocoee course. It was not cheap. Memory is fading, but I believe it was $6 Million to modify that half mile section of the upper Ocoee, put in the grandstands, athlete facilities, etc - There was a documentary that I cannot find anymore about the modeli...

Re: Boat of the Week - Hahn
A Morrison Hahn was the first C1 I ever paddled - The big difference If I remember correctly was the flat deck - no grooves like the Sweet Hahn. Served its purpose.

Re: Where to stay in Wausau?
I can't put my finger on why exactly, but I just get so much more of a kick out of canoeing. Someone once said "Half the paddle, twice the fun" Don't miss out on a chance to try your hand at racing - If nothing, It will hone your whitewater skills better than almost anything else - even if you aren...

Re: Why Grummans Rock... My story and Your thoughts please.
I learned to paddle whitewater in a grumman - in the 70s. I have no regrets about that. I think in many ways, it made me a better paddler - you learned very quickly that aluminum boats are very grabby on rocks. There is still something special about the slap of whitewater on the bottom of an aluminu...

Re: Radical new boat material (the Grumman thread)
spent many early days in a grumman with a shoe keel, a big block of styrofoam and plumber's knee pads. Still have the knots on my knees from a few rocks that just reached up and grabbed my boat. I will admit that paddling an aluminum boat did put a premium on precision - to stay off said rocks. It w...

Re: Repainting a Glass Boat
Rather than "paint," I'm thinking of adding a new layer of resin, of some kind, to re-seal the fabric. I'd be grateful for comments, advice. . . Assuming the outside skin is fiberglass (not Kevlar) you can sand the surface and apply epoxy to seal. But epoxy is not going to add UV protection. Once y...
