Re: Canoe instruction... why do so few of us pay for it?
At the NOC slalom nationals, I got to chat with Carole Westwood a couple of times. She mentioned that they (often, sometimes, occasionally?) come down to run a clinic on the Dryway. I would LOVE to take that clinic!

Tommy McGnarlz, I don't think I could offend you no matter how hard I tried.

Tommy, I do hope my comments didn't offend. I think what you are saying is very what you are saying. I agree it is very challenign to offer a formal "next step" for learning. I also like Sir Adam's post outlining the differences... One big difference between paddling and the ski industry is the ease...

New auto-replace software? Maybe he meant to say "kayaking".

Re: Canoe instruction... why do so few of us pay for it?
My background is similar to truckeeboater's, and I am a level 4 ACA instructor. I have been out of pocket as this thread was developing, but I have found the comments all fascinating. Particularly comments by truckeeboater, Hazard Harry, Tommy, and Smurfwarrior. I have some thoughts specifically rel...

Just means moving upstream against the current, generally eddy-hopping and using features to make upstream progress.

Re: Idaho Boater seeking Canoe Advice
Are you looking for OC or C1? Larry Horne is a dedicated C1er, and not that far from you (relatively). He might have some suggestions. Seems like there are tons of good options for conversions out there these days, and hulls can be found for cheap if you are patient.
Good Luck!

If it says Royalex, or Royalite, it is Poly One, and it is effected.

Re: What happened to Mohawk Phiend?
Richard, I know it's probably not a many-hands-make-light-work situation, but I would love to come down to Fort Smith and help if I can. Should have lots of free time in September.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Helmets
Ventilation depends much on what you are paddling, and how often you swim and/or roll! :) No company will offer a helmet with the level of ventilation you see in bike helmets, but most companies have offerings with at least a moderate amount of ventilation. I would encourage you to look for a helmet...

Re: Pump Question - retire or not
How much do you trust the battery? If it's a lithium ion or similar, I would worry about what kind of short circuit current you might have if the pump REALLY gives up on you. I say get a new one.

I believe that it requires weldwood green can for pumps. ALthough I've heard some people get better results with Aquaseal if you aren't using an Atwood.

Re: Pumps
Hardest creek I've ever paddled (maybe a IV, maybe a V) I swam, and ended up hanging from a tree with one arm and holding my boat with the other hand, wondering how long I was going to be able to keep my boat from going down the river with 200 pounds of water in it. When people finally got close eno...

Re: Millbrook news
Kaz's boats generally have a "Cab forward" or "fishform" design. Looking at the side view at the top of this page (http://www.millbrookboats.com/solo.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) it looks like more bow (left side) rocker than stern. That would be consistent with the Spark and ...
