Scamp
Bill M is correct in that Nolan first used Mohawk's furnace to mold hulls on his Piranha mold. As part of the agreement Mohawk culd use the same mold to make a OC1 that they could market. Essentially, a Scamp is the same hull as a Piranha, but that is all those two boats have in common. Nolan built ...

Hey man
It has been while...hopefully we'll get more water. If so, let's go to the Chattooga. Had a blast on LRC Chairlift with a good group of folks. Sweet level with lottsa big wave trains. Bottleneck was a solid IV rapid yesterday. Check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrHzBTnZiOM At one point so...

SE has water!
There are some happy campers down here...several things are running for a nice change. Folks have been in serious need of a paddling trip...too much internet, TV, etc. and not enough boatin'. The drought is getting really old :( I'm headed to Alabama tomorrow for some quality time (and water) on the...

How old?
I'm 49 and began at paddling at 22. My brother bought a used Blue Hole and I learned to paddle tandem with him. In a couple of years I bought my first boat, a Mohawk WW 16. I used inner tubes for floatation and a made an ethafoam saddle for a solo position..typical outfitting for the time. My wife a...

Good level for a first run in OC
You shouldn't have any trouble at 1.2' on the old bridge gauge. I think drrpm meant to write that the USGS internet gauge is .2' higher than the old bridge gauge. We've had a few thunderstorms bump it up to 1.4' (USGS) this week, but it dropped quickly. I recommend putting in at Woodall Shoals. The ...

Clinch River vs. Mitchell
Harrison, I've owned a Clinch River paddle for a year and a half now. The paddle has held up very well. The blade has a carbon cover with the resin tip. There is very little wear on the tip. I've paddled the Chattooga, Tellico, Ocoee, LRC and some Sand Mountain runs, so it has seen plenty of abuse o...

I might know those fellers
Was one of those guys paddling an Esquif Blast solo? My friends from Athens GA were on the Ocoee last Sunday, one in a Blast and the other in a Phantom. I just re-read your post...you were on the Ocoee a couple of weeks ago when you met them. Could be the same guys though. Their names are Mike (Blas...

Sta-Bond Adhesive
Sta-Bond is used primarily for raft repair in the boating community, but we Royalex boaters have used it for canoes for quite sometime. This adhesive has two parts, an activator and a adhesive part. The two parts are mixed together (quantities per directions) and it needs to be applied quickly to bo...

Velcro Knee Boots
Gizmo, These knee boots are still available. I bought some from Rocky Garrett(sp?) two years ago for a friend. He supplied the same items to Dagger back in the day. His contact info is as follows: Canoe Sports, Inc. 2558 Hanging Limb Rd. Monterey TN 38574 phone: 931-839-2806 (nights) Rocky recommend...

Early Bilge Pumps
Scott, The ORGT video was a hoot. Brought back memories of paddling tandem in a Blue Hole OCA with a foam block. Those were some of the toughest ABS canoes ever made. We thought we were so cool paddling one of those boats :) The first bilge pump I saw was on the Ocoee in 1985 or 86. This guy put tog...

Beluga Appaloosa Saddle
You shouldn't have a problem fitting that saddle in a Ocoee. I have one in my Caption and really like it. Just locate the thwarts where they need to be for the saddle location. With a bilge pump I would be careful where you locate the pump. The water pools near the center...close to those cutaways o...

Mouse killin' Peanut Butter
I found a jar of Peter Pan with the 2111 code in my pantry and promptly chunked it. Thank you Kneal for the heads up. We had eaten about a 1/3 of it. I made a PB&J from it just last Sunday for a hike in the mountains.

Hey bamaboater, The guy in ATL that paddles a Prelude with Dagger seat and straps is Chad Spangler. He is the president of the Atlanta Whitewater Club and a good friend of mine. You've asked for a flat blade that is both light and strong
For strength expect it to weigh a little more. Consider a Bailey stick with either his medium oval or problade. Much stronger and longer lasting than the other brands you mentioned. Get it with the carbon covered blade and a dynel shaft sleeve. Might have to wait a while to get it, but it's worth th...
