Re: Esquif Zephyr Troubles

A very easy way to remove glue residue, at least from royalex, is to dampen a rag with varsol and just leave it on the patch of residue overnight. Go back in the morning and it should come right off with a single swipe, no scrubbing or elbow grease required. asssume this would work on twin-tex as we...

Re: Octane

Looks great!

Just to confirm, OCtane92 is the same hull as OCtane91, with different outfitting, correct?

Re: Keen gorge boot

Ian, I know a few people who have them and like them. So far nobody's complained about them falling apart, and thats after a full season of use.

Assuming you're going to ALF this year, have a look down in the States - you should be able to do a lot better than the $110 that MEC sells them for.

Re: How does the l'Edge handle big water?

What Dooley said... I've had my l'Edge on the Ottawa and the only time I got burned was at McKoy's, trying to ferry from river-left to river-right above Hrorseshoe to make the tongue there. I blew the ferry and got munched in the left side of Horseshoe. Conversely, the week prior I made the same mov...

Re: Helmets

Fit is obviously very important, but also think about the kind of paddling you're doing. If you always bail out of your boat immediately when you flip, then ear/face/back of the head protection maybe isn't that important. If you hang out upside down waiting to roll, then more protection is a good th...

Re: OC1 HATE??? WHAT THE?....

Whoa! This conversation really evolved! Just wanted to add quick note apologizing for calling out PaddleShack by name (though really they are the only boating store in town now  ). My original post might have come off the wrong way - I've actually had really good experiences dealing with those...

Re: OC1 HATE??? WHAT THE?....

I've been at a boat store here in Ottawa ... and the 20ish salesperson Let me guess...the new Paddleshack location? I think I know the guy that you're talking about, too (I'm pretty sure he worked at the previous incarnation of Trailhead as well). Anyways I can't provide any useful feedback on his ...

Re: What can you do to a canoe that you can't with a Kayak/C

Just holds the water in if you ask me. I couldn't agree more, in fact I had a couple dicey moments trying to get the water out...most notably on the Rouge at high water, on the slippery rocks in the spicy eddy between Mushroom and Washing Machine. Definitely looking forward to being able to just du...

Re: What can you do to a canoe that you can't with a Kayak/C

Just got my l'Edge back from Andy at Echo Paddles. He did some great work: cut the lid off and put wood gunnels on. Looks nice, but the big difference is that it is sooo much lighter. It almost carries like a normal solo boat now! Sorry that I didn't weigh it before and after, but I figure it must b...

According to AB's website - they only make the Edge in 2-inch intervals...so maybe when you say 57, they just round up?

I used to love my plastic AB paddle. Then I got a real paddle (wood with carbon wrap blade). A couple of months ago I passed my paddle over to a friend for him to try, and took his plastic paddle in the meantime. It felt like paddling with a pool noodle, and I was upside down practicing my roll befo...
