well, this isn't really a serious candate, but i tend to write it on my kayak friends' cars when they get dirty:
"kayaking sucks"
of course, that's usually about the time i stop getting shuttles.

I think there are arguments for both. For example: almost all beginners have trouble paddling straight at the start. Sure, longer boats track better, but shorter ones are easier to correct (a notable plus in C-1). So it really comes out the same in terms of ease of straight lines. So I think shorter...

Bow Stall?
Seriously, can anyone bow-stall a C-1 for more than 5 seconds?
How long did it take you to get this?
I just find it so frustrating because every kayaker and his little sister can bow stall.

Nice pictures and article. I definitely met Seth this summer, or at least saw him on the river and wondered who he was. That's great about going to the Worlds. Wish I'd been C-1ing at his age!

FS: C-1 slalom and creek boat
FS:
1) C-1 slalom boat: Millbrook Fanatic, maroon. About five years old. I'm the second owner. Has been patched a few times, has a little hull weakness, but overall pretty good. $300
2) C-1 creek boat: Dagger Cascade, blue, in good shape. $300
In Vermont/Connecticut

I can't help asking -- you live in Richmond VA -- have you ever paddled with Jon Lugbill? Just curious . . .

back in the day
So, let me get this straight, Bob . . . First of all, he was paddling a glass C-1 down the Bottom Moose? To top that off, he had his buddies launch him (while in said slalom boat) off a 30-foot high bridge at the put-in? Wow. And to think that nowadays people look at me funny and call me "crazy" whe...

Yeah, I've heard the Niagara story too. Jesse Sharp was his name, and he was indeed a C-1er. I don't know if his run counts as a record though, because he wasn't exactly successful! I saw Allen Braswell run a 50-footer in one of those Scott Lindegren videos. Again, unsuccessful. You see him at the b...

C-1 origin
I dont know of any links, but check out Susan Taft's book "The River Chasers." It describes the origin of C-1 pretty well.

im in the same "boat" as you -- i'm looking for a new creeker to replace my old dagger cascade (which, if not the same boat as the one in the picture, is basically the same). what I have found is that shorter is better for creeking. you can fit through the slots sideways, you can spin around quickly...
