Re: Frankie

Insolence brings up a great point here, but after participating in this forum or it's predecessor for 20 years now (yikes!), I have an observation: At times there is more emphasis on the "latest and greatest" being a more stable platform to paddle from, and allow folks to push their limits (more dif...

Re: why would you not use a pump?

I can understand the appeal of pumps... but I'd rathe just paddle a C1 and keep the water out in the first place;)

Otherwise part of the challenge to me is a dry (as possible) run.

I'm surprise Kaz even uses a sponge... I'd think it would outweigh the amount of water he gets in his boat :o

Re: Viper (Frachella) C1 vs. River Elf

Likewise I have one of each - both great boats for what they are, but both very different. A full volume Viper is a great cruiser; cut it down and it stern squirts (or stern pivots) very well, and very controllably. The Viper is arguably a better front surfer, the Storm Chaser a better side surfer. ...

Re: "best" tripping boats?

Thank you for all the replies - I greatly appreciate it. We're just back from the Bow trip (Moose River) out of Jackman, ME. Pretty much all flatwater (and boney rips... low water right now:( ). The 5 of us (4 plus the dog:) ) had a great time though. Given how much our daughter enjoyed the quick wa...

Re: "best" tripping boats?

Thank you all for the ideas- more (fun) research to do:) I'm leaning towards getting a more WW "friendly" boat; I have a wonderful 18' tandem tripping canoe already. If it was a little tougher layup, or my paddling partner was a little bigger (she'll be 9 next year:) ) I'd just use what we have and ...

"best" tripping boats?

I'm curious what everyone believes are the "best" multi-day tripping OC2's. Mixed whitewater and flatwater, so it is a tough ask for a boat (maneuverable but not too much of a pig on flat water). I've read that the Blue Hole Cumberland / Evergreen Starburst is one of the best in a few places, but I ...

Re: Esquif Extasy! New model!

Congrats! I look forward to seeing them on the river (especially as I DO plan on having a CBoats Armada next spring:) ). It will be great to have a boat for lighter folks - only so many Phantom's still out there, and though the Splash is a great boat I think it tops out at 115 or 120 lbs (though I'v...

Re: East Coast Armada

Sounds like the Squirt Worlds will be fairly busy - should be a good time! I'm still planning on being in the area around Memorial Day weekend, and am trying to finalize plans and maybe camping. Right now I'm thinking of running the North Branch or something else either Sunday or Monday of Memorial ...

Re: Do I need a custom skirt?

My favorites are old Mountain Surfs or newer Skirt Works. Yes, I haven't purchased one in a while. I do have an older Snapdragon that was custom made for the Groove, as well as a slalom skirt or two from them. I've always had a problem with them popping off, so they don't get used much. Not enough "...

Re: Boat of the Week - Dagger Atom

That will depend on how you want it to paddle... At 160 (ish) or under it is challenging to get the stern under for a pivot unless you are very skilled, or crush the stern a bit. Still a nice cruising boat, except when the stern edge trips you up (I had a nice long swing in the Alley on the Kennebec...
