Re: Ankle Blocks - Knee Pain - Fix?

My knee pads come up the side of the chine so that when I lean the hull radically my centre of gravity is over my knee. It is another choice, it might help move your pressure points on the knee. I tend to use toe cups instead of ankle blocks, but have used both. I would consider it a cumulative expe...

Re: Seeking information on 1967 and 1972 Yukon River Trips.

Sounds interesting, good luck.

It seems that Yukon river travel style made giant leap between the Klondikers of 1896 to 1967.

Re: Blackfly Canoe demos out west - where should we go?

The problem was "teaching for money". He had about 5 hulls on a trailer, not exceptional, I have travelled crossed with as many but, in a standard search, they Goggled his name. His web site listed that he was on tour, also travelling to British Columbia, Canada and was "looking for interested stude...

Re: Blackfly Canoe demos out west - where should we go?

If you do cross the border check your paper work requirements. Not a problem, I do it all the time, just the usual bureaucracy.
I would probably chat with Elli, he inadvertently became the expert
It has more to do with "doing a course" than with bringing hulls across.

Re: Has anyone built a removable electric pump setup?

Same as PAC; sort of. Hose loops over top of bag-gunnel, under webbing. Battery sits in a glued down minicell notch, held down with elastic bungy cord loop and held in by float bag. 2 pin trailer make & break trailer electrical connections. Toggle switch mounted in small aluminum channel and "perman...

Keeper or Beater?

i'd consider trimming away the "dead skin" into the good zone, and then fill in the depression with Gorilla, working it smooth. After that you have choices, described in detail elsewhere; glass for strength or a vinyl patch to just keep the water out and the hull in the game. How the rest of the hul...

Blister buster

Glueing a blister. I drill a small hole in the center of the blister and then inject resin, at an angle, into the void. To inject I use small 10 ml syringes that can be bought from a fibre glass shop. I use the most viscous resin I can find so that it will travel thru the needle; Gflex and Epoxy Glu...

Fiberglass Mold Making

i could be wrong (it has never happened, but I'm ready for it) but our T-50 OC solo winner was Marc in his home built composite. (Yarnell has the details) Skill at paddling might have been a factor too as the Marc came in clean at 80 sec leaving me in the spray at 120 sec. Local slalom races are a l...

Vipers built under Licence

Viper 11's in composite are made legally. I own one, paddled it yesterday. They are popular out West, popularity as a measure being that, I know of 5-6 locally. They are made under licence by Western Canoeing, a large British Columbia composite canoe manufacturer, that produces the Clipper line of c...

Re: Open boat for a bigger paddler

Top heavy can be an issue, not just weight. Large paddlers may, or may not, have thick legs. It can be hard when the legs are 'folded up' and in the harness to sit on the seat below 8" or plus 8. (My OC saddles are cut to 7.5", I have gone lower in a C-1) What ever the hull, when you start to rise u...

Changing Sides

Wish I had learned both sides, it would not have been an effort if started early enough. Being able to switch hit helps even out the muscle budget on long ww days or multi day trips. Both sides with confidence is a cheap insurance policy to cover onside muscle pulls, making it easier to get out. In ...

Re: Outfitting Millbrook Howler

Kinda like the way it looks at the moment: "experienced". With a nice rigging job some & some good floatation colour that would be a signature boat to me. I'm hauling my kevlar Viper 11 into the shop this winter for some love, it's had a few hard rivers in the last years. Pretty much I'm just gonna ...

Re: What rack for a camper shell?

I have no problems with canopy side mounted gutters, although I made sure they were located over a side wall pillar to transfer the load directly to the truck bed. The rail to rail spread is a little wide for the newer short canoes and play kayaks, at the moment they go in the back. I'm thinking of ...
