Re: CBoats UPGRADES COMPLETE

According to datestamps on some of the original images, it looks like 2006 was when the previous site went live. Gosh, I can't remember what the pre-2006 site looked like... but I do almost remember what the "real original" site looked like before we took it over in 1999. I'm sure I still have the f...

CBoats UPGRADES COMPLETE

You may notice that the site doesn't look or feel exactly like it did before! This is good news, it means we're modernizing so that we can LOOK relevant! Yay! What was changed? - The forum software was upgraded to the latest and greatest. - The style of the site and the forum were updated to be more...

CBoats down time - Nov 2 2011

There's no good time to do this, but it has to be done... Wednesday, Nov 2, the site will be offline for 1 to 4 hours. I will be upgrading the forum software and modifying the look and feel of the site to update it a little. I will perform the work in the morning (Eastern Standard Time). During this...

phpbb version

Actually, the footer is misleading with regard to the phpbb version we are using. We are actually running the last release of phpbb 2.x which came out not too long ago, it just happens that 2002 was when I FIRST installed phpbb. The upgrade patches don't update the version year (seen in the footer b...

Possible down time

Just an FYI. Over the next few days there may be periods of CBoats outage. I am in the process of setting up HTTPS for the site so that your user credentials can be more secure. In order to do this there are some DNS issues I need to tackle. If all goes well there will be no noticeable down time. Ho...

One MILLION hits!

I've been playing with some log analysis tools lately and I'm liking what I see. On paper we had 1.4 million hits in December 2010! One tool I used calculated about 400,000 were from search engine crawlers, bots, and other "tools". When I look at the historical trend over six months, CBoats receives...

Sorry for that down time

Sorry that CBoats was down for almost an hour tonight. Trust me when I say that both Adam and I made sure our hosting provider heard about it. We're still evaluating hosting providers, so don't think that we're content with less-than-the-best, but at least they WERE improving their services before t...

I had a friend who decided to step through my cane seat in my Old Town. So I pulled off the caning, bought some webbing and made my own seat. I opted to go with flat tack nails which are made for attaching fabric to wood. http://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_430xN.19358280.jpg It's held up great, but then a...

Maintenance OVER - it's your turn!

Maintenance will be ongoing for the next few days but at this time I don't believe there will be any down time. We are in the middle of changing hosting providers so anything can happen. PLEASE reply to THIS post if you encounter any problems in the next few days. In the next few days there will be ...

Yup, definitely RapidMedia to blame for this one. I've taken their ad out of rotation (remember, they also had that sidebar ad, not just the top section).

They're in the penalty box until they learn to play nice with others. :)

Seattle folks, can I borrow a canoe or two?

Hey fellow CBoaters! My company's Seattle office is planning to send a team (maybe two) to the Ski To Sea adventure race out in Bellingham, WA on May 30. http://www.skitosea.com/ To save some money I was wondering if I could borrow a traditional 2/3-man canoe or two from any folks out in that area. ...

As Adam said, we're lookin' in to it. I've certainly does this sort of thing on other sites so I know it's technically possible to do. I'm hoping this year to make a lot of changes to CBoats but I'll try to squeeze this one in to the list. I like the idea a lot.

Ohhhh, I like that Tumbling Waters ad! Personally, I'd see if I could park overnight at the NOC and just hike a mile or two up the Appalachian Trail and camp for free in the woods. Heading South on the AT there's a REALLY great fire tower about 2 miles from the NOC and I believe a shelter not too fa...
