It's a combination of spending too many hours (stopped keeping track around 100) mindlessly sanding in the shop by myself, and reading a lot of Dr. Seuss books to my son.

Season's greetings and news from Blackfly Canoes.

'Twas the week before Christmas in the shop of Blackfly, I'm still hard at work; dust continues to fly. Only one Option left, it's color light blue, if you want one soon, it'll just have to do. For no more will be made for some while, but the wait will be worth it, I say with a smile. The plug is ne...

Re: When do you tuck...?

I've been told "spot your landing" is a good rule of thumb- wait until you see your landing, then tuck. The real key is to practice on smaller falls. It seems simple, but it's tricky to get it dialed in just right.

Re: Boofing: lean back, forward, or neutral after hip-thrust

Don't think about 'leaning' as much as pulling you knees up (to your chest.). The result will look like leaning forward, but if you pull up with you knees, it'll lift the bow more.

Re: Option Generations?

I THINK they track according to model year, with some overlap between 3 and 4, since I'm still shipping some gen 3 boats

Gen 1 should end in '11'
Gen 2 should end in '12'
Gen 3 should end in '13' or '14'
Gen 4 should end in '14'

Re: Option Generations?

There have been 4 molds at this point, with various changes above the waterline. The hull has remained essentially unchanged, other than the lines getting smoothed out and more symmetrical over time: Gen 1: long deck plates, lower ends. These had 5 'strings' on tag airbag lacing on each end. All the...

Re: Canoe Shipping Question

If you don't have an account with the freight co, you're going to pay out the you-know-what. But there are companies that will ship through their accounts. Try http://www.freightcenter.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Standardizing Measurements

My personal feeling is that using one number (or even two numbers) to describe rocker is one step away from being useless- there's so much more going on there. A quick look at kayak manufacturer websites shows only one publishes numbers on rocker- and kayaks are easier to figure out how 'much' rocke...

Re: Boat of the Week - Perception Slasher

I awoke one monday morning at the put in for the Gauley after Gauley fest weekend and decided since it was Gauley race day, I'd race the fastest boat i could borrow in the parking lot. Will Lyons had two Slashers he bought (or maybe was given?) for the saddles. As I was carrying it through the parki...

Re: Octane 85

How's the 85 roll, compared to, say, the Option or the L'Edge? How was the weight of the prototype -- story on the block is that the production boat will be of lighter construction than the Option? Thanks Rick I don't think I flipped in the prototype, so I'm not sure can answer the first question. ...
