Re: Dry land rolling practice
3. When (and only when) the boat is upright, quickly swing your upper body into the boat, keeping your head low. Some think of it as a low brace…. Good thread! But a quick question about technique -- especially Ian's # 3 above: Boats these days (eg. L'Edge, Option,) are built much deeper or "higher...

Very nice, Dave.E -- thanks for posting it!
You might consider adding the link to the other current thread: "big hands seek winter paddling warmth". Seems it completely answers the question: "gloves, mittens, or pogies?"!!!

Re: big hands seek winter paddling warmth?
We paddle all winter long, in temperatures within 3 - 5 degrees of freezing. Personally, My favourites are Glacier Gloves -- I believe the model is "Perfect Curve." They're not perfect, but they're the best I've tried. http://www.glacierglove.com/shop/perfect-curve-glove/" onclick="window.open(this....

And when you pull into the final eddy, may the innkeeper have an ample supply of screech in stock!PAC wrote:May all your runs be clean, the water big, the gradient steep and groups safe and solid!!!

Re: Help ID this saddle?
. . . The foam up front that matches the backrest allows thwart mounting front and back, however this isn't necessary in a royalex hull - contact cement will hold it down on its own. . . True, but FWIW, and IMHO, I'd think twice about cementing the saddle onto the hull. It's so nice to be able to p...

Re: The first of two questions. . .
. . . Or, as we saw in our slalom race this year, heck, just paddle on the same side . . . (Dammit, Pat -- that was going to be "The SECOND of two questions. . .") 8) OKAY -- so much for suspense. Now that Pat has given away the plot, here's Question Number 2: As he mentioned, the winners in the Me...

The first of two questions. . .
. . . about tandem paddling: My buddy and I recently dusted off the old C-2, and took it into the pool to try some tandem rolls. After one false start, we got into the rhythm, and managed rolls, both on on-side flips and off-side flips. However I have to admit we are both 'righties', and this made t...

Re: A bit scared....
. . . None of this is daunting! If we want it, let's go for it! . . . Quiet doesn't mean idle. Plans are underway for a Swiftwater Rescue course on the Island in the late-winter / early-spring. AND feelers are already out for an advanced solo clinic. Watch for further info on PaddleNet. http://padd...

Re: A bit scared....
The paddlers around here who have made the jump to beyond class II floats and done the most improving in the past many years have done it the following ways, often combining a few: - been really dedicated about practicing/training on their own, paddled lots. . . - been pretty fearless and jumped in...

Re: A bit scared....
Doesn't Roger C. have a L'Edge too? If so, Ian would be the 4th L'Edge in the valley (making the valley 100% L'Edge, because that's everybody, and they'll run into each other eventually), plus Ken in Vancouver would be 5. That would probably make the L'Edge the most popular/numerous hull in the Low...

Re: A bit scared....
. . . Einar, Rick or others around here in the PNW, am I being unfair about how hard it may be for a keen novice like CanadIan to find some good instruction? . . . Like Einar, I can't argue. But it's not 100 % doom and gloom. PNW boaters DID get Eli Helbert in for two clinics this year (in fact, al...

Re: BigDog Force OC1?
Hope this helps! It does, it does! Thanks, Gonzo! I note you used the rear flotation-tank bolt holes to secure your thigh-straps (?) Is that a good fit? Wondering about ordering Forces direct from the factory: Is it possible to specify "Hull Only" (i.e. No saddle, and no flotation tanks?) Rick

Re: BigDog Force OC1?
Glad this topic came up. Mostly because of Gonzo's previous comments, I recently picked up a used Force. It came with beer-holder decks and side-flotation tanks already removed. It's still not light, weighing in about the same as my Option. Next step will be to rip out the plastic saddle, and replac...

Re: Anchor points, suppliers and bonding.
Yes, the Bulldog is a great boat to paddle. I bought one used, and put around 30 trips on the odometer, before replacing it with an Option. It excels at surfing! Do a 'Search Forum' -- there's a lot of related comments. Northwater anchors work very well. It's quite possible to install them onto comp...

Air bags for 'fly' boats
Hey folks
Would be grateful for guidance about choosing air bags for 'fly' boats: (eg. Aftershock, Spanish Fly, Big Dog Force. . .)
(A preliminary 'Search Forum' turned up lotsa info about brands, colours, and sources, but nothing definitive on size!)
Thanks!
