Re: car roof racks
My 2015 Mazda had what I would call marginal mounting points for the rack: One bolt per corner, and only about 75cm longitudinal distance between them. I drilled and tapped additional holes so that I had 2 holes at each corner, and bent and drilled the Thule legs (originally made for gutters) so tha...

For an extra $50, you could also get aluminum gunwales. My first solo "whitewater" boat. I think I bought mine around 1978.

Re: Thigh straps
If you can't find anything commercially available, most upholstery shops can make something exactly to your specs. It helps if you show up with the flat strapping and Velcro though.

Re: Batmax upper weigth limit ?
It's been a long time, but I remember the Batmax as being fairly high volume compared to all but the later (Extrabat-on) designs. At 150 lbs, I had a very hard time doing pivots.

Just spread a little on an unused area on the hull. Once dry, try to peal it off.phreon wrote: Unless somebody can tell me a way to verify it's vinyl?

Re: Repairing hold-down on a Royalite boat.
From my research, Royalite and Royalex use the same materials, only the thicknesses are different. You get vinyl either way. My Spark is Royalite and Vynabond worked well. Just don't use too much.

Re: Do I need a custom skirt?
You can increase the friction on a plastic rim by the addition of cloth electrical tape.

Re: Do I need a custom skirt?
I've got a custom-size Snapdragon River Trek skirt. It's very good overall, but I put on a little Goop to protect the edge where my paddle shaft tends to increase the wear. I would definitely buy another one. My boat has a weird cockpit, so I had to send them a template, but the skirt fits perfectly.

Re: Rebuilding paddle blade
I've repaired a bunch of paddles over the years. It's not too hard. You'll need a way to sandwich/clamp the repair material to the blade remnant. 1. Grind and taper your original blade material at least 1" from the current edge. 2. Lay up one side at a time, extending the material well past where yo...

Re: Cold hands
Make your own. Note that these will stretch over a canoe paddle handle, so a closing method is unnecessary.

If you need more warmth, wear some non-cotton glove liners.

Re: Your Favorite Road Trip Vehicle
This is what I got (and modified) for my trips. It only weighs 800 lbs so I can tow it behind my Mazda. I can also get an open canoe on top, if required. It's tiny inside, but there's enough room to sleep and sit at a small desk. The "kitchen" area is accessible through the rear hatch. http://www.hi...

Re: NRS Velocity, any experience?
Looking for some new water shoes and have been debating the Velocity boots. Does anyone have any experience with them in a kneeling position? None local to try out so I would be trying blind which is not ideal, but you do what you gotta do. Do you curl your toes or do you keep the tops of your feet...
