Cover for Fiberglass Boat?
Is there a particular fabric that could safely be used as a cover for a FG boat (Shacho)? I mean a cover that would sit against the hull. Long story, small apartment, etc, .. my summer storage is outdoors in a shared space; I can't rig a tarp above the boat, so I'm hoping if there is a fabric that w...

The Dragover section of the Ouachita in Arkansas is a fun, easy spot with camping right at the put-in.

Quick question on hanging storage for composite boat
I managed to wrangle a bit of indoor storage for my Shacho and am looking for advice on how best to hang it. The storage area is a small, unheated building used very occasionally as a sort of ecology lab on our campus. I can store the boat there over the winter, but I need to get it up and out of th...

Re: Apartment/condo dwelling Cboaters
Drying gear in a small apt: I installed an extra shower curtain rod along the center of the bathtub for hanging drippy gear. Spray everything down with Mirazyme after trips. A dehumidifier also makes drying way faster. Store everything in a sealed Rubbermaid tub so it doesn't stink up the place. Boa...

Re: dude whats that smell?
I find that wearing wool socks helps keep my booties from getting stanky. Mirazyme or Sink-the-Stink helps, too. I keep it in a spray bottle and spritz them inside and out before I set them to dry.

Re: Salamander Throwbag?
I've been happy with the NRS 55' waist-worn bag. The bag and storage pouch are a little longer and narrower than the Salamanders, so I never even notice it when I'm wearing it, even when I lean back onto my saddle. I think they're on sale on the NRS web site now.

Re: Octane 85?
Ditto what Wendy said: not everyone wants a displacement hull. I love my Ion: among (many) other things, I like having edges to engage. It does make you work to cover distance, though. I saw an Octane 85 the other day, and it seems built for a much smaller paddler than the Ion would accommodate. I d...

Re: Canoe instruction... why do so few of us pay for it?
I have on several occasions heard canoeists vehemently bash paid instruction as fit only for chumps. It may be that this sort of macho chest-pounding deters boaters who don't want to appear "uncool". If so, it's a shame. I recently took a 5-day, small-group clinic at MKC that was fantastic. I booked...

Re: Royalex is dead?
^Whoa. Flashback. I remember watching an episode of the kids' show "Zoom" in the 1970s in which a narrator showed you how to carve a kayak out of foam. I soooooooooooo wanted to do it, but my parents wouldn't get me the foam.
That was good tv, man. Good tv.

Thanks--I hadn't thought about it in terms of that trade-off.

Is my paddle too long?
I think (hope) I attached a pic here of me in an Ion. I'm 5'8" and have a 56" paddle. I'm new-ish to canoes, so I know I have some bad habits, including coming too far back toward the stern on my offside-forward stroke. I also tend to keep my right (power) hand too high up on the shaft in general. W...

Shoulder pain question
Hi, I'm relatively new to open boating but have been paddling a ton this summer and progressing pretty well. I recently started to experience some shoulder pain after several consecutive long days on the water. I didn't do anything particular to it, it just really started hurting each day right afte...
