Re: WESTFEST 2012
shep's right. "ain't west fest" would be a more fitting name for it. But, but, but... It is West. Maybe should be Ain't East Fest. But that makes for a sucky acronym. Maybe Ain't Shep Fest but you can't "voice" that acronym either. I know, I know... Ain't Really a Fest (ARF) I think ARF might be th...

have you paddled with it yet? i've seen some sawyer paddles and thought they were some of the worst I've laid eyes on. that and the 'ponderosa pine' really make it hard for me to believe it is a good paddle, even for $80 I've used it. It works well enough for a backup paddle. It will get you down t...

Soar Inflatables sells a two-piece breakdown that is quite nice. Wood, excellent quality, stainless steel coupling, not very costly. At 60" it's too long for most of us but not that big of a deal to shorten it. I bought one of these for use with my L'Edge. Fits nicely under or along side the rear fl...

So... I'd say you need to measure at A or B But B has no relationship to the shape of the bottom of the boat. So, A makes more sense to me. Here's my thinking. Use the R1 radius measured at the center line to get point A. Didn't draw the stern but it works the same as the bow. The shape of deck doe...

The "Your going to..." guy was doomed before he had his paddle out of the water on the onside. That is to say, his boat healed to, and landed on, the off side going over the ledge. Whereas, the other guy more or less landed flat and started toward the off side as he resurfaced. IOW, he had a less dr...

So, new question for the masses: what kinds of "clinics" do you think would attract advanced beginner or intermediate canoeists? I have though about "Paddling like a slalom racer" or a "short-boat" clinic.Shep When I was at the "advanced beginner" level a slalom clinic paid huge dividends. So much ...

I put an automotive seat belt similar to this one http://www.jcwhitney.com/chrome-lift-latch-safety-lap-seat-belts/p2006829.jcwx# in my Fink. The 60s style lift latch releases with very little movement and does not bind under pressure. The chrome plating is showing no signs of corrosion despite many...

Durable Spark
My Spark lasted four years. During that time it was stapled, folded and mutilated. Well... not really mutilated until the very end. It saw a lot of water and held up well. Took punches without complaint and generally lasted much longer than other boats I've similarly abused. Bottom wore very thin to...

From a little web research I've read that while the shoulder can be dislocated in many different directions 95% are forward (anterior) where the ball ends up in front of the socket. A common vulnerable position is when the arm is held over the head with the elbow bent, and a force is applied that pu...
