Re: Ledge or octane

I think this thread has its Octanes mixed up. The Octane 85 is smaller than the L'edge. The Octane 85 is just 8'4" and is probably better for a lighter paddler than the L'edge, but that's debatable. I'd look beyond both those boats and suggest an Option. Faster hull speed and more versatile canoe. I...

T-Formex appears to be a success

Esquif isn’t the most communicative company when it comes to updating its website or sending out press releases, but apparently, it has been busy and successful with its new canoe laminate. Signs of its success include an announcement from Wenonah that they will be making a total of seven models in ...

Re: Blackfly Canoes - Where should we go in 2017?

Definitely keep the Portland crew in the loop. We have a group of paddlers interested in another rendezvous.

Covert Debut in the Pacific Northwest

In this video what may be the first Covert in Oregon is piloted down the Middle White Salmon, a classic Northwest run. There's carnage, but not from the Covert. She's steady as she goes ...

I've asked the only canoeist I know in Bend and unfortunately he's going to be out of town.

Re: New Composite canoes available

Great-looking boats. Nice to see someone bringing out these designs again. The Ovation was my first solo canoe and though it's been called the Slow-vation and other names, I found it a great first canoe. Very forgiving and excellent for working on surfing. I still have one in the garage I use to tak...

Re: Gearing up

Good PFD properly strapped, Helmet. Lessons (formal or informal) from an experienced paddler. You can find a lot of resources out whitewater canoe outfitting with photos by searching around on the web (water bottles can be clipped with a carabiner to the lacing cord holding in your airbags). The boo...

Re: Eaquif / Liquid Logic

I also heard that the second part of that announcement was that T-Formax boats would start coming out in mid-May. I know we've heard announcements like that before but one can hope. Speaking of hope, I hope that means Preludes will also start being manufactured by Liquid Logic. That would make me co...

Re: New Boat Feedback

Thanks for the review! So how does one buy a Covert in the States or Canada ... I'd drive up to Vancouver, BC. Anyone know? Is there a North American distributor?

Salmonberry River Expedition

In the coast range of Oregon lies the fabled Salmonberry River, a river with a single road to the put-in and no other road to it until the take-out some 12 miles later. The river runs along an abandoned railroad track that wasn't rebuilt after landslides in the 1996 deluge. The steep road down to th...

Very cool. He styles it. In his one misstep, he really sidesurfs that hole a long time before swimming.

Paddling Oregon's Trask River

A Lower Columbia Canoe Club run with a good showing of canoeists as we run the lower section of the Trask River. One paddler's "roll" begs the question at which point a low brace is not a just a low brace anymore, but qualifies as a roll. In this case, the boat is entirely upside down (turtled), but...

Curved versus Flat Blade

In the new "what paddle" thread, Kaz raises an interesting question--why does a paddler want a curved blade? I'm not sure about the science behind it, but I've felt I get better catch and a little more power. I know it felt that way to me when I first made the switch from flat to spoon. But occasion...
