Re: Looking for solutions for reinforcing a Prelude's hull

I'd stay away from rafting vinyl as an outside patch - the edges seems to peel up too quickly, but, more importantly, it's much less slippery than the rest of your hull, so you find your patches sticking to rocks when you expect to slide/bounce. A friend had that material on his Royalex chines and h...

Re: An Option for Prelude paddlers

Thanks Jeremy, and good luck with making the Condor! I took a look at the website again. Re-styling the big Octane is probably a good idea, I admit that its looks - a bathtub with a flat-back for an outboard - put me off a bit. Ultimately, I think the Octane 91 is too solid for my paddling style - I...

Re: An Option for Prelude paddlers

Are the Condor and the new "Big Octane" the same thing? Not that I'm in any big rush to replace my Ocoee, I paddle so little it will last even with delaminated chines, but all this gushing about how the new boats like the L'Edge Lite and Option provide more stability and inspire more confident, aggr...

Re: An Option for Prelude paddlers

I'm sure Blackfly will be thrilled that they've cornered the Prelude market

Thanks for the comparison. Glad you're lovin' the new ride.

I wish Blackly had something other than the Octane 91 for heavier folks. Anxious to know what will come to replace the L'Edge Lite.

Re: From C-1 to H-1

I wish they'd show that on the TSN highlights! !Impresionante! Body language can sure move a boat when you know what you're doing, and I wouldn't want to arm wrestle that guy. Pat.

Re: Marking the centre line in a boat?

balance it on something narrow

edit: can't a guy delete his own posts. Wrong centre line - mis-read 'bow-to-stern', and ignored the kayak part, so not the best answer!

Re: The end of ESQUIF..... :(

Just noted Esquif's ad in the current edition of Rapid Magazine...

"'T-Formex'... To: Canoeing, From: Esquif"

Made me sad.

Not a lot of offerings for the heavier crowd, so I really hope to see somebody keep making the L'Edge Lite.

Thanks Esquif!

Re: Dagger Caption Outfitting Questions

I also like the full-on adjustability of removable saddles. If you search "removable saddles" you'll finf some previous discussions and photos. Here's the Northwater stuff in my Vertige X: https://picasaweb.google.com/vanc.yarnell/VertigeXTripleOutfitting?authkey=Gv1sRgCPeYkZKWzdGmOw#" onclick="wind...

you clearly possess two virtues that are perfect for C1: tenacity and masochism
Great. Part way there. Too bad I don't possess any time, talent or guts - I think one needs 3 of the 5 to have a chance at enjoying C-1ing!

Re: curious about c1

I'm 220lbs, thick legs, not at all flexible. Paddle an Ocoee, on pretty gentle II + and III rivers. With jacked-up rims I thought a Score and then Redline were OK in the pool, but I wasn't comfortable in the river. Now trying a Fink and Super EZ, which have more potential for me, but I paddle so inf...

Re: curious about c1

Perhaps the experience of somebody who is not a regular C-1er and doesn't paddle class IV is most relevant? Some of the opinions offered might be true only after a good amount of experience, but from somebody who's paddling infrequently and has trouble being physically comfortable in C-1s, here's so...

Re: Removeable Tandem Saddles?

North Water Rescue makes a nice "daisy chain" attachment system on vinyl anchors for removable saddles. I use saddles for 3-positions in a 14' Vertige X and they work great. There are some other discussions you can search, including some photos: https://cboats.net/cforum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7967361&...

Re: Solo Canoe Advice.

Last time I was in Whitehorse, a few years ago now, there was a Hellman Otter kicking around - you should track it down and try it. Can't recall whose it was, but I'm sure you could find it if you ask the likely suspects. Around Vancouver there's been good deals on used composite Viper 11 and 12s. I...

Re: The first of two questions. . .

I think we could make this a much shorter discussion by sticking with Part A.

Just switch hands.

Or, as we saw in our slalom race this year, heck, just paddle on the same side, as a bonus the bow guy gets lots of practice on his offside stroke.

Re: Update on Mohawk

Not just 220, but "upwards of" :( Ankle-schmankle, it's the darn rat race of young kids and a desk job that's killing me in more ways than one. Hey wait, you mean it's not the hull designs that are changing and getting wetter? It's me! Maybe the new boats aren't any smaller at all, they just feel th...
