Re: Slalom boat basics?

Maybe because I'm big, tall, and stupid, I can stroke cab-forward on either edge and the boat will run straight. Zealot, Synergy, Millbrooks, MR Guide, any of them. I might needd a J correction every 10 strokes or less. I must be doing something seriously wrong. The trick is that ...

Re: Zealot spray skirt

Yep to EZ and yep to "old and in the way". Today's standard slalom cockpits are significantly larger than previous models. The Zealot has a slightly larger opening than the "standard" size of the older models, but not big enough for Dagger Atom-sized skirts. Give Davey and Jennifer a holler.

Re: Zealot spray skirt

Been a long time since I owned a Zealot, but it is the garden variety round C-1 skirt that nearly every boat used in that era.

We don't need no stinking airbags.

I second the vote to call Davey and Jennifer...

Re: project slalom boats

The Maverick is the only slalom boat other than my Zealot that I've ever paddled. Mine is the #1 original high rocker Zealot, so it excels where the Maverick fails. But I could feel the hull speed of the Maverick as soon as I tried it.

Re: Zealot spray skirt

Where are you?

I got mine from Rapidstyle but I don't think Dana Chladek is dealing anymore.

I would call the Hearns at Maximumwhitewaterperformance. (See cboats links.)

It seems like a just slightly larger than average cockpit.

project slalom boats

I have a Zealot and a Maverick that need a good home with a caring, and attentive, cboater that wants a project boat (or two). Zealot has leaky seams but the hull is sound (from an impromptu surf 'n swim in Big Nasty at 5.0 feet). ...

Zealot spray skirt

I recently bought a Zealot C1 and need a spray skirt for it tomorrow. Does anyone know of a standard skirt model that will fit it? As long as I am asking, which air bags fit it best?

... and good handling of the boat ie so it's not bow heavy. I know all about the Torrent as I paddled a Batmax for 8-9 years (Max II before that and Zealot after that). We paddled and raced wtih PSOC folks and they built some Torrent XL C-2s I believe. I do have confidence that River Elf will design ...

... spins on a dime so eddies are really easy to snap into. It ferries well and actually holds the angle well. I find I set more angle compared to my Zealot C-1. It's an extremely easy boat to learn to paddle and I felt comfortable in it very quickly. Oh, right now I have my seat at 6" and the boat ...

... sizing, and to a lesser extent from picture angles that don't show what they should. But all things considered, the pictures I submitted of my Zealot, my Wide Ride, Andy Bridge's Magnet, and my ratty old Phoenix, were at least a good start. Some of the most interesting boats are those so rare ...

Re: C1 Maverick - any tips?

I paddled one briefly, while its owner tried my Zealot. The boats behaved about as one would expect from visual inspection of their hulls. The Maverick was like an elongated pumpkin seed, with a shallow arch going well back into the tail. It didn't ...

Re: C-1 recommendations?

I'm 6' 5", size 15 feet, and right now I'm back down to 210 from 225. I was able to tolerate a 5 3/4" saddle in my Dagger Zealot, but now in my old age, I find a 10" seat in my Millbrook Edsel to be hard on circulation below the knees. I have a Millbrook Wide Ride, bought used, and ...

... It's a very fast boat, great at ferrying, and a strong carver. You get used to the low stability. My Dagger Zealot c-1 has a flattish bottom also, but the sides angle out above the chines. It has rock solid stability as far as one can lean it. I can't see ...
