Re: wenonah rogue vs OT appalachian
OT Appalachian here, and I love it. Never paddled a rogue. It's an excellent big tandem for the WW you're talking about. I've never felt it to be too slow on flatwater, but then the only flat water I have taken it on is the pools between the drops. ...

wenonah rogue vs OT appalachian
... into those eddies on class III water and can carry a load for a multi-day trip. Right now, we've kinda narrowed it down to two boats: A wenonnah rogue and an old town appalachian. Although they are different, i'm sure they are both fun in ww. I really wonder how they paddle empty on flat water--we ...

Re: WTB Legend, Rogue, or Appalachian
Millbrook AC DC... that's what I started WW with 30+ years ago with my father, that's what I'm starting my daughter off in (well, a ducky and shredder first... but we've done some tripping and class I in the AC/ DC.) The best part is the weight. Occasionally you'll see one used... but I'm fairly sur...

WTB Legend, Rogue, or Appalachian
Looking for something to use with my 4 yr old. I'm really new to open boats but have some OC1 experience. We paddled a Legend 15 and was able to paddle it turned backwards which helped offset our weight differences. We had a blast on some class 1 and easy 2. Will be used on slow moving to easy ww ri...

The XL15 will be the better whitewater boat. The Appalachian or Rogue will be better all round boats. If you think you'd use the boat on flat water or river tripping, the new trail they're putting in the the French Broad for example, the Appalachian or Roque ...

... in them where you're kneeling all the time (which i do not want). Having said all that, i've started looking at the Old Town Appalachian, Wenonah Rogue (which looks almost identical to the Appalachian), and the Mohawk XL 15. These all look like good choices for what i'm wanting in a WW canoe. ...

... tripping on class II or larger rivers with occasional open class III (I'm thinking places like the Upper New river) then something like a Wenonah Rogue or an Esquif Canyon may be your best choice as sort of hybrid classic/WW tandems. These boats will be faster (not fast) on flatwater and have ...

Re: Mohawk "Whitewater"
Do you mean a model specifically called the "Whitewater"? I've got an old Mohawk solo boat in the fleet that might be a "Whitewater", but it might also be a Scamp or a Rogue.

... still capable whitewater boats. Esquif Makes the Blast (a little smaller) and the Vertige X which is similar to the Caption and Probe. The Wenonah Rogue and Old Town Appalachian are also possiblilties. My experience is that its hard to find a used canoe in decent condition, though it can be done ...

... there about the 3rd weekend in Sep each year (30+ boats). Too far for me for the weekend, but turn it into a week of paddling (N. Umpqua, Smith, Rogue, or some of the northern Cal rivers) and I'll be there. Also, southern Oregon is about half way between Sacramento and Vancouver (8 hr drive each)....so ...

Wenonah rogue
Has anyone used a Wenonah Rogue for class 3 WW? I am thinking about working a trade for one and setting it up as a tandem boat for when my wife wants to come along. It would get used on class 2 and a bit of class 3. I have paddled the ...

... "mature", so here's an extra strategy I'm using. I used to paddle bigger, more stable boats back in the late 80's (Whitesell, Mohawk Scamp and Rogue) and could sit on the back of a Perception saddle in calmer water on pool/drop rivers. The stability of these boats gave me the opportunity sit ...
