Re: Craiglist freebie!

One additional thought - If you like dark colored boats - you could thicken the G-Flex with a bit of the West Graphite Additive - it will add some "slickness" to slide over some rocks...

Re: Craiglist freebie!

You could coat it with WEST G-Flex - would add a little weight, but at least the G-Flex wouldn't flake off. I would probably recommend mixing pigment into the G-Flex instead of painting - Would last longer... - Don't need to go overboard with sanding - wipe it down with Denatured Alcohol, Scuff the ...

Re: Driveway epoxies

g-flex and some of the West Graphite additive - slick and flexible!

Driveway epoxies really aren't made to flex.

I have used X-Line (like Rhino Liner) for non-skid in a motorboat, but not what you want on the outside of a canoe.

Re: Gel Flooring Knee pads in Option

In the "good old days" I used to use those black rubber roofer's knee cups - they gripped pretty well to the aluminum of the old grumman. By the time I moved to a blue hole (OCA) I had figured out that it was easier to just glue a neoprene pad down...

Re: How tight are you in your boat

for a slalom boat, I'm very tight. The pedestal a modified bucket seat, and is as low as I can tolerate for 10 minutes at a time :-), and I have straps and bulkhead very snug. For larger C1s, higher pedestal, and straps with knee cups. for OC - higher pedestal, straps and a kneeling pad so I can mov...

Re: What is the most difficult CBoat you've ever paddled?

I'll go with ACE III as well. I never could stay upright in that boat for very long.

I was just fine in a few other Wildwater boats, but not that one...

I built an extrabat that was over cut for my weight - edges were in the water sitting still... there really in no need for a 13'2" Squirt boat :-)

Re: Boat of the Week - Perception Gyra Max

Taz pretty much had the falls nailed... I was regularly paddling a batmax in those days, but spent a bunch of days in a gyramax for bony rivers and flat out play... Obviously not nearly as responsive and the lack of real edges to carve on caught me a bunch - but it was a huge step up from the centau...

Re: Old Town C2 (decked)

Back in its day it was pretty hot... I wound up having to paddle one after years of "modern" Slalom C2s - It handles like a brick... But it is definitely a classic...

Re: New boat ready for glass

You are definitely into the "fun" stage now... One hint - If you are done paddling the plug, you don't need to use glass and resin to fair the surface for molding. Depending how wavy the surface is, resin mixed with aerosil sands a whole lot easier than glass for bug dimples. If you don't have large...

Re: Removing OLD adhesive on vinylester hull

Tolulene is likely the solvent if it was a contact type cement... You can get it at the hardware store - It is nasty. Make sure to use in a very well ventilated area, preferably with a respirator. Heat gun would probably be your best method - but you need to be careful controlling the heat. Work a s...

Re: Decked C2 Modification Question

Before you build the new rims, take the boat back to the lake, check your trim again

You may even want to cut the holes slightly smaller than intended for the first try at the lake.

Re: Decked C2 Modification Question

Moving cockpits is pretty common in composite C2s. Especially slalom boats that have changed hands. It really comes down to how skilled you are with glass repair and how pretty you want it to look. For flexibility, you probably want to center the cockpit holes - especially if your wife has the reach...
