Re: Pump Adhesives

I don't glue them down any more. Three pumps were ruined by hull impact driving the impeller up tight to the pump housing (whereupon the motor fried), or by bending the impeller shaft. I now use D-rings and straps and a bit looser coupling. Doesn't seem to affect performance.

Re: Buying a used Spark--issues?

The standard outfitting is the strap system. I am reasonably certain that there is no bulkhead option. If you want one you are probably going to have to build it yourself. An email to info@esquif.com ought to get you a definite answer.

Re: Buying a used Spark--issues?

If you cannot find a suitable used one you should consider new. The new red camo looks great!

Re: Spark: how many thwarts?

It looks to me like the Spark in the picture is the owner's custom modification. As far as I know bulkhead outfitting is not a factory option and so must be custom. You can also see the D-ring patches of the original thigh strap outfitting still in place. My 2006 Spark had five thwarts while the 201...

Re: 2013 Open Canoe Slalom Nationals & North American Champs

The event deserves a five out of five stars rating. A hearty thank you to all the organizers, volunteers and participants that made it so much F-U-N!

I'm guessing Louie is too PO'd to post here even if he was offered payment.

Re: OC1 knee straps?

Hey Lung,

You can get the webbing and plastic parts at REI.
I might have a few old but useable D-Ring patches I'll give you if you want them.
Fix that boat up and bring it to Wausau 9/15&16 (if you're not working)

Re: Spark... love or not love....

I don't agree with the 4x4 technique only comment. The Spark responds wonderfully to stern prys and draws. (YMMV) That said, strong cab-forward technique will pay dividends. I am on my second Spark, have left the saddle height untouched on both and could not be happier. I'm 5'11'' and 215 lbs so you...

Re: Another L'Edge question

There is a whole bunch of pedestal foam both front and back that D-Rings pads will glue to very nicely.
At least these would provide something to tie into. As others have suggested the floatation will hold things down.

A nice sharp drill with a diameter slightly larger than the shaft of the rivets. Drill on the folded end just until the folded/compressed end is cut away.

Re: Rival equivalent

I agree with Craig's list of contenders and you would not go wrong with any of them. Out of that group the Esquif Raven is (IMO) the closest in terms of boat shape, size and over-all handling. I paddled a Rival for several years and have spent a little time in the Raven. The Raven felt like I was ba...

Re: Hip Replacements and C Boating

Charlie, My sister-in-law (not a boater) had hip replacement last Spring. She was water skiing again by the end of the Summer. That was an activity that she had not been able to do for several years. I think you should have every expectation of getting back in the canoe and having a fine time - comp...
