Re: Cboat Armada May 16, 17 and 18 during 2014 Rendezvous

Stoney appears to have peaked and is starting to drop. At the current level Stoney Creek Canyon will be a wild ride. There are a number of Stoney tributaries that normally would not be runable this weekend in May that will be good to go this weekend :D . Should be lots of good boating this weekend.

Re: Perception gyramax for flat water

I feel that in order for this to be a complete answer it should also be added that some of the boats mentioned, most specifically but not limited to the wildwater type boats, are not particularly user friendly. Based on your initial post, you want to get into boating, which I am taking to mean that ...

Re: Cboat Armada May 16, 17 and 18 during 2014 Rendezvous

I don't believe that the Greenhouse Park is available for camping Thursday night, however there is good free (bootleg) camping on the river nearby. I have camped there many times, as have others, and have never had any problems. If anyone is coming in Thursday night and wants to know where to camp y...

Re: Caption vs Vertige-X

I liked both boats a lot. They both surfed like a dream. The only reason that that I got rid of them is that due to my being in my mid seventies they became too heavy for me to lift. :D I can 2nd the weight of the VertageX, mine is HEAVY, perhaps atypically so. If is were a solo I would almost neve...

Re: People switching from Lite to original L'Edge

I have never compared them side by side but I am certain that both the Light L'Edge and the original L'Edge come out of the same aluminum mold so any differences in length must be due to differences in the post molding shrink factor as a result of the change in plastic thickness. As most of y'all kn...

Re: Black fly option vs esquif ledge

As an additional factor (don't ban me) in the decision making process is the "crack coefficient". The L'Edge Lite is much less prone to cracking than the original but it is still more crack prone than the Blackfly offerings.

Re: show us your shuttles

Here are some photos of my Subaru Rack. I always hated having to load boats at the last minute because they block access to the trunk or rear hatch. Having fabricated several racks for various cars I began to brainstorm a bit for a solution to this problem and this is what I came up with. https://ww...

Re: show us your shuttles

gumpy, I welded a cargo rack I made from 1/2 round steel to the trunk lid for the trip to Beaverfest. It should also be good for attaching paddles and even sub 8' boats to. Mike W, I didn't include the truck cap initially as it wasn't boating related. Adding boats to the top of the cap would introdu...

Yehaaa!!! I too will be camped at the festival, which is by the way, right on the river, compete with a man made surf wave (they light it up for night surfing during the festival). Stoney Canyon is an easy and fun class III run and is great for a wide range of skill levels. Don't let the AW descript...

Re: Baby Falls

I think the crux is the move off of the lip to have proper boat placement to hit your line and then get some kind of hard forward boof stroke. The boof stroke will leave you with a backward body lean. Now the options are remain back, return to neutral or lean forward. In this case I would say that y...

Re: Whithewater tripping solo canoe

Not to comment on the boat designs here at all, this is a composite vs twintex only opinion. I would take a good composite boat any day over taintex for a number of reasons. 1. Modern composite boats can take quite a beating without failing. A good glass/Kevlar layup will take quite a lot of rock ab...
