Boat of the Week - Esquif Zoom

I let the Boat of the Week take a break for ALF and the holidays - it is BACK! This week (or 10 days..)... the Esquif Zoom ... known as the "wooz" to some, beloved by others... I'm SURE folks have opinions and stories about this boat, so post them up! https://www.cboats.net/c_db/list.php?type=3&alpha=Z&boat_id=264&name=Zoom" ...

Re: Octane 85

Zoom's comment is freaking hilarious:

"I did not attempt a roll, because there was no turning this boat over."

Saw one at ALF and can't wait to try whatever Jeremy "cooks up" next.

Re: Boat of the week experinece: Zoom

I’m a similar weight and have been in the Zoom briefly. I have mostly been paddling in tight and low volume, but did one run on bigger water. The Zoom was smooth in the squirrellies, but I was surprised by getting stopped in a hole. I haven’t ...

Boat of the week experinece: Zoom

Paddled a loaner Zoom for the first time for 2 days in straight 3 technical water First 30 minutes produced flips in quick succession, but then got on it, got ahead of the brace game. It's true, no 2nd'ary stability was to be had ...

Re: Bell Prodigy?

I'm coming out of an Outrage X and and Outrage. Had a Zoom and a Nitro before that. I think I'll like the edges of the Prodigy, I tended to slide out of eddies in the Outrage hulls. It may not matter for long, as the wife has committed to an open boat ...

Re: outfitting my Option

I’m using the BF bulkhead in a Zoom. I’m 5’8” with fairly big thighs. I’ve added wedges under the hooks to force my knees out, carved into the sidewall foam where my knees press out and added ankle blocks to keep my feet vertical against ...

... a Canon G15 , a compact rangefinder, loaded with features and functions, that has been getting excellent reviews. f1.8 to 2.8 over its 28-140 mm zoom range. Fast to get ready to shoot, and from shot to shot. I'm about to order a Canon waterproof Lexan case for it. Combined, the weight and size ...

... down Spanish Fly (CutFly) and it wouldn't track for her (or me) but was sized nice, the Spark - liked the speed but the lenght was a bit much, the Zoom - next, Spanish Fly - kept banging her hands on the gunwales and the Option - which she surprisingly liked the best. No Ion or Stinkeye... yet. ...

... necessary, ease of roll. I learned on a Zephyr, then an Ocoee. I loved the Spark when I tried it but was unable to find a used one. I got into a Zoom on a whim one day and loved it, ended up buying a beaten up one for cheap. It's twitchy but I find it responsive and agile, pretty dry, very easy ...

Re: Oc-1 or -2 for small-ish teenagers?

... The Spark is great too - the only reason I don't have it is that I'm rather on steep or narrow, rocky creeks than deep, royalex-friendly water the zoom is said to be great for smaller folks, but havent paddled this one yet or maybe a Robson Holmes (might be expensive in your area, though), fast ...
