Re: Help Choosing my First WW Solo Canoe

... factory outfitting (rip out or order empty and replace with full foam..) would be a reasonably lightweight option as well. Oh yeah, and try the zoom. Try all of the above!

Re: Help Choosing my First WW Solo Canoe

a cut-down Zephyr might suit your needs (its light, dry, forgiving, tracks well, etc - a great all-round boat).

Also, it seems that small/light paddlers don't have nearly the issues with the Zoom's tippy-ness as the rest of us do, and they really appreciate its small size and light weight.

Re: Deck the hulls with scraps of fabric; Falala La La. . .

... salsa, and a bloke (Bob of concept racing) made use of his fabrication company to make an aluminium deck with a cockpit that he riveted to his Zoom... But I'm left wondering, 'if you're doing that why not just use a C1?' Open canoes are defined by their openess, decking them thus makes little ...

... of us right in Vanc who are stuck in the 90s, though we could count Heather's Tareau if she paddled it, but it's back in her lineup, behind the Zoom and Spark. Pat. You can add Sundre to the list of plastic.A few floating around Calgary, guess your thinking of the West Coast, but we're close enough. ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Esquif Zoom

I really like my Zoom. I'm smaller (130 lbs) so the light weight is a factor for me. It's pretty fast for a small boat. It fits into tight little spots. It can be made to ride over waves rather than dig into them, making for the dry ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Esquif Zoom

Zoom's initial instability is evident when going slow, but not when paddling with speed. The harder thing I find about paddling the boat is that it also looses it's spin when going fast. I'm told my paddle goes naturally into ...

... indicator, and that the West Coast isn't a hotbed. But it's not like everyone is still paddling H2Pros, we've got lots of Ocoees, Viper 11s, Zoom, Solito,... And you know what it's like trying to see or demo a new design from out here. Plus, with Vancouver mortgage/housing, nobody can afford ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Esquif Zoom

Of all the boats I've sold, I miss my Zoom the most. It taught me to never let my guard down. Louie told me about his early Zoom that has a round dimple instead of the standard tear drop dimple. I think he called it 'the cereal bowl'. To quote ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Esquif Zoom

It seems to me it was the Zoom that really started the sub-10-foot canoe revolution by bringing excellent acceleration and responsiveness to this category. When it was introduced, it was a radical design that garnered lots of attention ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Esquif Zoom

If I recall correctly one local paddler here got a Zoom specifically for the "dimples" ( or APS using the official term), in that being short in stature vs. a lot of male paddlers, and with shorter arms, found many boats a bit wide. Being able to ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Esquif Zoom

The APS was introduced to provide a better control, allowing paddler to use correction stroke closer to the center of the boat.

Re: Boat of the Week - Esquif Zoom

Fun boat (particularly since it was someone else's and I just borrowed)! Twitchy to a degree but that is part of why its so fun. Got WOOZed many a time and it makes you a better boater. I'd like to hear about the dimples too since I banged my knuckle more than used those! Kayakers always asked about...
