Re: For Sale Esquif Zoom x 2

I'd like both if they can get a ride to Gatineau. PM me or email gth426a[at]gatech[dot]edu
If possible to include a couple pictures that would be appreciated.

For Sale Esquif Zoom x 2

That’s right!!! Not one, but two Esquif Zooms for sale. One with factory outfitting and ash gunwales the other with bulkhead outfitting and vinyl gunwales. Both these boats have been well loved with lots of experience, but have lots of fun left in them. Both come with air bags. $1000.00 for the pair...

... light L'Edge is worth checking out if you want to stay with plastic, as are Kaz's (Millbrook) excellent composite boats. Not sure if you want a Zoom or Zephyr... Another option might be to contact Class V - IIRC they can build many of the Mohawk designs in glass.... Your best bet really is to ...

Re: Tips for an intermediate surfer?

... 1. I second TonyB's recommendations on a neutral boat. I tend to think of it as paddling into a wave with a flat boat. On boats like the Ocoee, Zoom, and Solito that's incredibly important. Drop one of their sharp chines and you're off the wave in a hurry. But this rule applies to all boats. ...

... instantly adjust. I feel this in the Prelude more than any other canoe I've paddled (Ovation, Outrage, L'edge, Phantom, Ocoee, Nitro, Detonator, Zoom, Solito, Maxim). That might just be a personal preference for the Prelude's kind of hull though--I'm sure others would disagree with me and say ...

... with a bulkhead and bags. It has all the features of a quick and nimble boat. I was impressed by how much volume it has for a boat the size of a Zoom. But even then it won't be something to take on a creek with lots of barely wet slides and deliberate rock bashing unless you like to spend weekday ...

Re: Royalex is dead?

^Whoa. Flashback. I remember watching an episode of the kids' show "Zoom" in the 1970s in which a narrator showed you how to carve a kayak out of foam. I soooooooooooo wanted to do it, but my parents wouldn't get me the foam.
That was good tv, man. Good tv.

Seeking advice on solo ww canoe choice after 6 year hiatus..

... I am also looking for boats to borrow/shops to demo from in the Upper Midwest that carry the boats I am most likely to consider (Viper 11 and 12, Zoom, Spark, others???). Thanks!

Re: oc1 for female

Interesting -- I find the Prelude and Zoom 'edgier' than the Phantom, and I'm sitting around 170lbs. At 150lbs, all three are worth a try.
And all three are edgier than an Ocoee, which was my point.

Re: oc1 for female

The Prelude takes the same kind of balance and quick reactions that a Phantom and Zoom require. If she didn't like the L'edge for its lack of glide, the Option might not be much better. Interesting -- I find the Prelude and Zoom 'edgier' than the Phantom, and I'm ...

The Millbrook boats suggested are interesting choices as well, but require more ...

... if Kaz has one in stock. Try a Blackfly Octane 85, Ion, and Option. In Western MA, you have Zoar, which has a couple of demo Esquifs including a Zoom, and possibly a Zephyr. They might have a Mad River Outrage too. Beyond shops/manufacturers, I would agree with others that you should see if you ...

... an open boat (OC1) not a decked boat (C1). Folks I've known around your weight (and lighter) seem to have liked the Phantom, and in some cases the Zoom. The Blackfly Ion and Esquif "light" L'Edge might be worth checking out as well. You may also want to try out a Splash if you can - I think you're ...
